Chapter 196

“How dare you talk to me, dirty rat,” the princess hissed.

“Hey, lady,” I said good-naturedly and spread my arms. “I don’t think I’m a rat shifter, unless you were speaking from personal experience and recognized your own kind.”

The princess’s eyes widened in surprise before rage took over. Yeah, I knew that outraged look. No one lower than her had dared to speak to her

that way. I still had a smirk hanging on my lips, but I was ready for an attack and pictured doing a devil’s kick to dent her pretty face.

Did I even know how to do a devil’s kick?

The courtyard fell silent even though it was packed, and students dropped everything they were doing to watch with riveted interest.

“Who the heck are you?” Viviane demanded, red-faced. Even the roots of her blonde hair turned red. “You’re dead!”

“Don’t mind her, Viviane,” Sideburns said, his hands gripping her waist. “She’s nobody. That girl hasn’t even shifted yet and knows nothing about our rules. Don’t stoop to her level.”

I chuckled lowly. Wow. What a match made in heaven! Yet his dismissal set bitterness brewing in my middle.

“Fine, since you asked,” Viviane said and threw her arms around Sideburns’ corded neck. “I missed you. You haven’t called since you left my penthouse last time. We had a good time, didn’t we? My throat still hurts from what you did, but I regret nothing and only want more.”

She didn’t mind anyone hearing as she narrated their kinky sexual escapade. And she thought I was trash.

Sideburns frowned at little, then said, “I missed you too, Princess.”

She stood on her toes and leaned in to kiss him. He hesitated for a beat, his gray eyes darting to me before returning to her. And then he kissed her back hard.

I’d probably just have let it go if the princess hadn’t shoved me and then called me a rat. She’d have struck me if Sideburns hadn’t dismissed and humiliated me. Or maybe I just felt angry or even a bit jealous at being rejected. So I was up to some pranks and petty vengeance.

Suddenly, Viviane farted long and loud, like issuing a series of high notes. Sideburns pulled away from her, looking shocked. Then he farted too, shorter and sounding more like whining.

Now the courtyard was even quieter until someone could no longer hold back their laughter, then a couple more snickers burst out.

I chuckled too. This was fun. But I didn’t stop there. It wasn’t in my nature to hold back

“Anyone heard that?” I asked around with a smirk. “Someone has an accent. Is it French?”

I heard that the Great European Shifters Kingdom was based in Paris.

A roar of laughter rippled across the courtyard. Even Shade was laughing, and he’d been trying not to double over by the driver’s side of the jeep.

“Silence!” Sideburns bellowed in fury. “Return to your stations!”

The crowd muffled their laughter and scattered.
