Hattie adjusted her shorts as she headed down the stairs, she couldn't help but admire the structure of the house. She loved the way the stairs twirled in circles leading downstairs. Everything looked really expensive. She walked gently down the stair before getting downstairs. She looked left and saw Javier sitted on the dinning with his phone on his hands. He looked up to her and let out a warm smile. She walked toward the dinning, the sight made her drool.
"Did you make all this?"
"Who else?" He smirked
"I'm sure it tastes as good as it looks"
"Well there is only one way to find out" he smiled patting the chair that was just beside him urging her to take a sit which Hattie did. She shifted her seat gradually away from him without him noticing. She wanted to be able to eat this meal at peace and not nervousness, but truth be told, moving her chair away from him wasn't going to make her feel any less nervous. He would surely have that effect on her. She looked at him, he was just few inches away from her, she could even see his stubbles. She felt the heat spread round her body. Javier on the other hand didn't look troubled. He just kept his eyes on his phone unaware of the fact that she was loosing her mind because of him. She grabbed a fork as she proceeded in putting some salad on her plate, she always liked to start eating from light to heavy. She scooped the salad with the fork and put it into her mouth muching on it silently.
"Javier?" She called out, she most definetly had a lot to talk about.
"What?" He said looking at her "Are you enjoying the food? He asked
"Yeah it's actually good, who would have thought that you would be a good cook" she complemented.
"Don't I look the part?"
"I don't think so" she admitted which made Javier chuckle.
"And i really need a thorough explanation on what happened last night" she asked. Javier was indeed surprised by the question, that was the least question he was expecting after he had manipulated her earlier into thinking it was all in her head. Did the manipulation not work? That was impossible, his powers worked on everything, ranging from weather conditions to controlling humans. Was his powers getting weaker or something? Why did his powers not work on her? He looked at her baffled by the whole situation.
"What do you mean by that?" he looked at her intently, trying to manipulate her. He kept eye contact with her, trying to reach out to her mind, he couldn't. What was wrong with him. Did this lady possess a type of power that he did not know of?
"Am talking about the attack last night" she said. He couldn't manipulate her into forgetting it, so he had to start telling her everything. Where would he start.
"You were attacked yesterday" he said firstly
"I know, but what I want to know is how you came into the scene and saved me"
"Yes I was getting to that part" he said
"Oh go on, do you by any chance know the person that attacked me?
"No I did not" he lied, he did not want to tell her everything about what exactly conspired. He would just try and take some parts to tell her in the hope that she would believe.
"The person that attacked you, had been trying to get to you for a long time"
"How did you know that"
"Think about it, why would he want to kill you out of know where, It's obvious that he had been trailing You, waiting for a good opportunity to strike"
Hattie believed this, the stranger even knew her name and she was sure that it was the same person that was trailing her a year ago.
"You might be right, I also had an experience like this a year ago and I think it's the same person" Hattie blurted out.
This information was new to Javier, he had thought that Andrew went after Hattie in order to get his attention but he wasn't aware that he had been after her from the start.
"What do you mean?" he asked, he needed more information on the precise situation
"like I was coming back from work one day and there was this guy following me. He was few feets away from me but I knew he was on me. I lost him and I assumed he lived nearby"
"And did this happen before we met?"
"Yeah it did, actually a day before we met" Hattie said.
This had Javier in confusion. Why was Andrew onto Hattie. He was sure not too long ago that Andrew was after Hattie because of Javier but now Javier was confused. Andrew was obviously after Hattie but for a different reason entirely. What could that be.
"Did anything else happen?"
"No That is all I could remember" she said leaving out the note part.
"You know going home is not going to be safe right?"
"Well I can't stay here, I have to go home"
"That man would come after you in your sleep"
"What do you suppose I do then" she asked
"I have made arrangements for you to stay with my sister"
"I don't even know her"
"It doesn't matter"
"How long?"
"Until all this is sorted out"
"And how are you going to do that"
"I would try" he was most definetly going to kill Andrew, there was no other way.
"Thanks for the offer but I would like to go home as soon as I get better. I don't even know how my life got this bad" Hattie sighed
"You have to stop being stubborn in this case, it's for your own good"
"And how is your sister going to protect me From this killer?"
"Can you just trust the process?"
"Fine if it makes you any feel better, I would stay with Daphne or better still, Aida"
"Who the hell is Daphne"
"My friend, you don't know her"
"Look, Daphne can't protect you"
"And your sister can?"
"Yes"
"How ridiculous, if it makes you feel any better, I will report to the police"
"Oh please, we both know that police aren't going to do anything about it"
"Well they have to"
"You are a really stubborn lady, just eat up, we would have this conversation later"
She picked up the fork in defeat and resumed eating her salad. The conversation had made her loose the appetite she came into the dinning with. She eat the salad boredly.
"Won't you like something else, you sure are finding it hard in eating that salad?"
"I don't even have the appetite to take any other food. I would just finish this and go back upstairs. My head is already beginning to hurt slightly" She pointed out.
"Ok i would send for doctors Charles to check up on You"
"Am guessing this whole mishap was the reason you didn't put me in a hospital?"
"Yes"
"How dangerous is this person, and do you know this person"
"I don't Hattie" he lied "but am sure he is really very dangerous"
"Oh and one more thing, how where you able to save me last night. How did you know i was at that place and how did you know i needed help?"
"My instincts" he said
"Urm would you mind explaining more?"
"Hattie look I will explain everything to you when the time comes"
"So there is more to this than I thought?"
"Yes alot, that is why you need to stay with my sister"
"How can I do that when I am as confused as hell. And why can't I even stay here?"
"You can't Hattie"
"The problem is that you are keeping alot of information from me. I can't help but feel lost. my life was doing just great about yesterday's morning but now, am hearing stories about someone about to end my life and you are hurdling too much information away from me?"
"You life had been in danger for a long time, you just did not know about it"
"No Javier my life was doing great, I was even getting better and healing from the heartbreak you caused me two months ago"
"I already apologised"
"And you think sorry fixes everything?"
"I know it doesn't but I left you for a reason, I didn't just walk out for no reason"
"And you think you can walk back in, look the only reason am here having this conversation with you is because you saved me. And I have no other person to talk to. As soon as am better, I would be out of your life the way you have always wanted it"
"Too late, you are already in my life" Javier said calmly. Hattie was taking back by the words he uttered. She never expected him to say those words. He said it in a way like that seemed like he she was had to stay in his life since she was already in his life.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked.
"I already feel the need to protect you and I would do that"
"I don't need your protection"
"Its not about what you need Hattie, it's about doing what is right and the right thing is protecting you"
"Am done with is conversation" Hattie dropped her fork as she got up angrily. She winced in pain, she had gotten up too fast. She was too carried away by anger, now she had to face the consequence. She groaned in pain as she held on the dinning table in order to support her weight. Her back was hurting as hell and she couldn't stop it.
"Are you okay?" Javier who was now by her side asked.
"Am fine" she said still proving stubborn
"You don't look like it"
"How do you think I would feel after been treated like a toy yesterday night" she half yelled at javier's face
"Let me help you"
"Nevermind, I will work" she left the table slowly standing on her own careful not to upset her body further. She leaped out of the dinning and was going towards the stair when She fell again. Her legs was hurting to bad. She tried getting up but she couldn't. A hand slipped into her waist, she turned to look at Javier who's face was just a few inches away from hers. She looked down on his lip as she bit her lips. She couldn't take her eyes of it. How was this man able to have this effect on her. She realised how much she was staring and she looked down in embarrassment. He notice how embarrassed she was and let out a smirk. He raised her up from her floor bridal style as He proceeded in carrying her up the stairs. She didn't protest, she just stayed still as her face pressed against his hard chest. He reached her room, opened the door and laid her on bed. He proceeded to putting a duvet over her. And walked out.
Javier was still confused about what Hattie had told him, why was Andrew after Hattie. He needed to know because he felt all he knew about this situation was false. He racked his brain for a good reason but couldnt find any. He wasn't sure why Andrew was going after Hattie but he was sure that Andrew was going to kill Hattie at any opportunity he gets. He had to find a way to convince Hattie since his powers don't work on her. He still found that part also very confusing infact he found Hattie quite confusing.
Hattie just laid on the bed, her head hadn't gotten over the fact that she was that close to Javier. Silly her started imaging how his lips would feel against hers. She couldn't help the feeling. That was her fear, she didn't want to have feelings for Javier, it might not end up in a good way. He made it clear that she can't love him and that was what she was trying to do but she was failing. She couldn't help the little naive brain of hers. And about what he said about someone being after her life. Truth be told, she was actually sacred. She was scared by the fact that the person actually wanted her dead, she was really giving going to javier's sister's house a thought. Going home was surely risky. Another part of her frowned by the idea. How would she go there and live. To be honest, she didn't know very much about Javier and why should she believe what he says. He did have a hint on sincerity in his eyes but still she had some doubt. It was okay to have doubts, she didn't want to walk into an open trap so would definitely give it a thorough thought. She grabbed her phone by the bed to check the time
'3:04pm' she sighed. She took her pills that was prescribed to her by doctor Charles. He warned her about how the drugs could make people fall asleep. That was exactly what she needed, good rest, she needed to clear her already occupied head. If she went on, she might end up with a migraine.
**************
She felt her legs become weak as she continued to run in the darkness. She could hear the thousand faint whisper
'Hattie, Hattie, Hattie' her name filled the whole place. She placed her hands on her ears as she tried to block the disturbing voice. She couldn't even run anmore, the darkness was too much and she could barely make out where she was going. She looked around in fear as her heartbeat echoed inside of her.
'Come to me, my dear come to me, my dear come to me, my dear' the voices echoed into her head. She needed someone to save her her from the torture. She felt helpless and scared as she looked around. Her eyes went wide open as she looked at the man behind, her worst nightmare, she crawled backward using her butt as a means of support. Her back hit a wall, a dead end. He was surely going to get her time
"Hattie, my darling Hattie" he said coming towards her.
Hattie woke up as beads of sweat gathered on ther forehead. Why was she seeing him in her dream. That black cap, she would never forget it. She really wished he had revealed his face to her but no, here she still wondering what his face looked like. Why did she have this dream. What scared her the most was that it felt so real. She could never forget the voices she heard. How scary and creepy it was. Somebody was after her life and she needed to do something about. Maybe she should consider accepting Javier's invitation of going stay with his sister because as things looked, Hattie knew she had no choice.
