Chapter 24

"No reason, I would like you to come back same time tomorrow" Hattie said, still uncomfortable.

"You can't help me? he asked as a little smirk appeared at the corner of his lips.

Hattie wanted to smack the smirk out of his face. The man in front of her no longer looked innocent as he looked when he made an entrance in her office but he looked rather terrifying.

He most definitely had a mental problem or he could be a psychopath Hattie hated the idea. What if he kills her and made a run for it. There was a probability that the police would never catch him because, judging from the fact that he had murdered a lot of people, that means he was really good at it. And even if they caught him, she would be long gone. She was most definitely too young to die and the thought of sitting down with a murderer made her Shriek.

"I didn't say that. It's just that I didn't plan on having any patients today, I just resumed" she said in a bid to convince him that that was her true reason.

"It's alright, I didn't plan on staying long anyways"

"Oh really?. It's fine though" Hattie said her voice at that moment did not match her feelings at the moment. She sounded so calm and composed on the outside but on the inside she was being overwhelmed by fear.

He stood up to leave after flashing Hattie a quick smile, then he walked towards the door and held the door knob, he stopped and then snapped his head towards her.

"Just before I forget, pass this message on to Javier. Tell him that you met his worst enemy"

Hattie's heart sunk as she heard the mention of Javier's name. How did this person know about Javier?. When he walked through the door, she had thought he was a stranger but now, she was really getting scared that he wasn't a stranger and that was really terrifying. What did this person have to do with Javier.

"What do you mean by that?" she asked but the person had already exited the door before she could even notice. She got up on where she was seated and rushed towards the door. She couldn't just let a statement like that, go. She was going to talk to the person and find out what he meant by that.

She opened the door and to our surprise the person was already gone. How fast did he even walk to have been able to live so quickly?. She groaned in frustration. One thing that she hated, was being kept in suspense and that was what the stranger did. She racked her brain trying to think of a possible explanation of why he said such statement and why the hell he even knew Javier.

Then her mind drifted to Andrew. She didn't want to make any assumption but it really looked that way to her. What if this person was Andrew. Because it will all make sense that way. If he was Andrew he probably came to pass a message and which was fear. Javier had mentioned something about how Andrew likes to instill fear on all these victims before carrying out anything. He believes that fear was a strongest weapon to use against anybody and unfortunately for Hattie, it was really working on her. She walked back to her office as she sat down on her seat with her heart still on her throat. She searched for the note, she was going to give it to Javier when she got home but to her utmost surprise, it wasn't there anymore. She rummage through the documents on her table and she couldn't find it.

Now she was hundred percent sure that the person that came here was Andrew. He probably picked up the notes as he was leaving. Why was all this happening?. Most especially when she was just happy about her resumption. The office suddenly felt too hot for her as she exited it she needed to clear her head by taking a walk round the hospital, at least for a short time. there was no way she could stay in the office for one more second without passing out. What should she think after just encountering a man who is after her life. She wasn't sure but she had a feeling that he was Andrew.

Maybe visiting Fay would clear her mind. It has really been long since she last saw her and she really wanted to know how she actually felt. She must have been healing after being here for over two weeks.

She made her way to the ward where Fay was staying. Hattie learnt that she was moved from the emergency Ward down to a normal ward as her condition was getting much better.

Hattie arrived at her ward. She opened the hospital door as she came faced with Fay who was eating her lunch. Fay noticed the sound from the door and she looked up. Fay beamed with excitement as she saw Hattie. She dropped the food that she was eating on the counter and she finally spoke.

"Oh wow heart you came by?"

"Oh yes, I did, I just resumed work today and I thought about seeing you at least to check on how you are feeling and whether you were getting better at all and I guess you are"

"You are not wrong" Fay chuckled slightly

"And have you been taking your medications?"

"Yes, and I also learnt that you were the one responsible for the payment of my bills. Words cannot explain how much I really appreciate your gesture. It really meant a lot to me. Thank you"

"It's nothing, you thought I was joking when I said I was going to be here for you?"

"It's just that, I have had many people say that to me and they always break their promises, so I had a hard time believing you. Thank you for proving me wrong"

"Can you stop already?" Hattie said with a little smile on her face

"I was also thinking about you moving into my house. I know you wouldn't like the idea of sleeping at the restaurant where you were attacked"

"Wow are you being serious. you would really do that for me?"

"Yes I would and I really mean it. As soon as you get better, you will be moving in with me. Not basically with me though, but you'll be staying at my house" Hattie said as she remembered that she wasn't staying at her house but at Javier's house.

"That would be so lovely" Fay said, she was already tearing up.

"Oh come on, it's the least I can do"

"Thank you so much Hattie"

"You are most welcome, I just need you now, to get better that is all I'm asking"

***********************

"What do you mean by that?" Javier said as he stood up for where he was seated and looked to Hattie.

"I don't know if it was really him, but I just felt it could be him. you can't be too careful these days"

"Can you give me a brief description of the person you supposedly met in your office?"

"Brown eyes, well-groomed brunette hair, a little bit masculine and rather tall"

"I'm afraid that this could be Andrew" Javier said with his voice filled with worry

"And I'm sure he came to your office for a reason. Did he perhaps  say anything out of place?"

"Yes he did, at first he kept on saying things about his urge to kill people, I found it too disturbing, with the way he kept on acting like it was normal. I found that really wierd. When He finally decided to leave, he dropped a very disturbing message 'pass this message on to Javier. Tell him that you met his worst enemy' he said it a left" Hattie explained to javier.

Javier's fears were slowly coming Alive. He feared that Andrew would get to Hattie one way or the other. Andrew could have ended Hattie right there in her office. He had the chance, Why did he wait?. Javier really wished he could know what Andrew was planning to do because he couldn't help but worry about Hattie.

"He also kept saying he needed help and he came to me because I am a doctor and I can't help him"

"He probably just wants to instill fear into you"

"Am a afraid it working, I was really terrified all through out my stay at the office"

"You don't need to, Andrew can't do anything as long as he know that I am with you"

"What if he doesn't mind?"

"Then he would have to take me down, before getting to you"

"Why do you care so much about me"

"Because I want you safe"

"Do you love me" Hattie blurted out, as she looked at Javier who was standing by the drink stand. He turned slowly towards her as a result of her question.

Hattie couldn't help but ask. She really needed answers. She didn't understand why he bothered too much about her. She really needed to know her stand, So asking the question wasn't out of place.

"Why that sudden question?"

"Can you just give me a reply. You act all caring and loving towards me. It's only right that I act under the influence of humanity by asking that question"

"Hattie" he paused as he looked at her  "love is a strong word for any lashedta living on planet earth"

"Why do you say that?"

"Humans sees love as an avenue to have fun and make memories but the lashedtas sees it in a rather different way"

"In what way?"

"Love in the lashedta realm is a very strong word. It is like a bond with one's soulmate and it can only happen once in a life time"

"Which means?"

"A lashedta can't love twice"

"Have you loved before?"

"Yes, I loved someone once"

"Your late girlfriend?" Hattie asked as she could already feel the lump forming in her throat and the ache that slowly spread around her chest

"Yes I did"

"So you can't love me?" Hattie asked trying to sound as neutral as possible.

"I can't"

"Is there anyway, this can be reversed?"

"No, I already fell in love once, It's almost impossible"

"So why do you keep helping me?"

"Because I have the need to protect you" Javier wasn't really sure about the answer he gave, but that was the reasonable answer his mind kept giving him anytime Hattie asked.

"Ok" she said plainly but the ache she felt in her chest was unbearable that it was getting hard to breath. She knew that she was in love with him. She had tried her best to convince herself that It was something else she felt but she just couldnt. She knew she had fallen In love with him, the day they shared their first kiss. She remembered how she felt. She had never felt that way before. She felt safe and secure in his arms that were wrapped around her. She didn't even know what to feel anymore. She suddenly felt rejected and neglected.

" I would like to go in now, I am really exhausted" she said in order to cut off any conversation that they were having and leave the already tensed up sitting room.

"Before You go, I need you to tell me about the girl that was attacked that night. Bella told me something about it"

"You mean Fay?"

"I didn't get her namr"

"Well it has to be Fay"

"Ok what happened to Fay"

"She was attacked in a resturant and I have a feeling that a lashedta did it and it could only be one person thirsty for human blood. Andrew"

Javier stood uncomfortably. He wasn't sure if the allegation placed on him by Andrew were true. But he couldn't help but feel guilty

"Can I see the girl?" Javier said totally ignoring the statement made by Hattie

"Yes you can, but that would be later. Why  do you want to see her? You don't seem like the inquisitive type. Is there something more to this?"

"No there isn't"

"Oh now I remember, you actually met the girl once"

"I did?"

"Yes, at that resturant that we saw each other" Hattie said to Javier who squinted his eyes in confusion as he looked at Hattie in confusion.

"She was the waitress"

"Oh now I remember her" Javier remembered the young girl who was th waitress. He really prayed and hoped that he didn't do anything to the poor girl. She was still too innocent to face the cruelty of the likes of him and any lashedta.

"She was in really bad shape when she was found"

"And she is getting better?"

"Yes more faster than assumed"

"Did she perhaps see the person that attacked her?"

"No she said she could not but she did said that the person felt stronger and faster than normal so I assumed that the person could be a lashedta"

"Ok, you look exhausted, go and have some rest" Javier said to Hattie as he gestured for her to go up the stairs. Hattie obliged as she made her way up the stairs with her handbag on her right arm. She still felt really heart broken on what Javier had said earlier. He wasn't even allowed to love, so there was no way that he could even love her. She lazily climbed the stairs as she stopped In front her room door. She opened the door and walked in. She jumped aggressively on the bed as she ran her hands across the bed as though she was a kid playing in snow. She heaved a little sighed trying to relieve her self from the tension she felt. She couldn't still believe that Andrew had access to her. Her heartbeat increased as she thought of the possibility of him showing up the following day. What if he finally decides to end her.

Javier had earlier said that he would protect her but she couldn't help but still feel scared. She felt down all through working hours and Javier just added to her emotions by saying what he said.

How she hoped that wishes came through, she would have done and undone certain things.

Javier's attitude towards her could be mistaken for love but he did say he can't love twice. The whole scenario made Hattie want to find out more about lashedta.

Hattie stood up from her bed. She needed to take a shower. How bad she wanted to wash off everything she must have probably felt today. She undressed herself. She stood in from of the mirror. She adjusted her hair, to fall over her shoulder. She stared at naked self. She was indeed beautiful. She remembered how her mother used to call her, goodness of the stars. In a bid to cheer her up when ever she felt down. Hattie stared at the mark on her thighs. It was a little scar, she had always wondered how she got it in the first place. Her mother always waved the talk off, whenever she asked her about it. Hattie probably thought that she maybe had a little accident when she was little, that was why she had that mark on thighs.
