Chapter 25

Hattie held her head as she groaned in pain. She tilted to the other side of the bed with the duvet around her body. She felt dizzy and restless at the same time. She also felt weak.

How much she hated being sick. She hated the fact that she had to sit on her bed all day not doing anything, it really bored her out. She wondered the cause of this sudden sickness, even though that she had been feeling really weak lately and she couldn't remember ever engaging in any tedious work, apart from going to the office which she started not too long ago. Now she couldn't go to work because of how she felt.

There was a knock on the door and her Instinct presumed it was Javier.

"Come in" she said weakly as the door opened to Javier. He looked at her curled up on her bed with a duvet over her body from head to toe. Javier wondered what was wrong with her. He had come to check why she wasn't ready for work yet. Hattie the perfectionist, wouldn't decide to go late for work out of nowhere.

"You don't look so good, are you not going to work?" He asked squinting his eyes as he looked at her from top to buttom, trying to access and know the cause of the coldness.

"No I can barely stand. I think I can't go to work now"

"You are sick?"

"What does it look like?. I'm sure you think I love my bed so much" she said rolling her eyes, trying to add humour to the situation.

"How long have you been sick?" he asked

Hattie realised how frustrated and uncomfortable he looked at the mention of her being sick

"Well, i noticed that I was getting weak, lately but the sickness just chose to finally surface itself today"

"For how long?"

"Can you quit asking me those questions, I can barely even talk. I just need to rest so I'll be I will be at work tomorrow"

"But why are you just telling me?"

"About what?"

"About how weak you have a feeling lately"

"What were you supposed to do about it. I am not a baby and I can take care of myself, remember?"

Javier biggest fear was that it could be what he was actually thinking about. This was one of the reason why a lashedta can never be attached to any human. Sometimes, the after effect can be so worse that no one was ready to risk it.

"Before I forget, I was actually thinking of letting the girl stay at my house"

"What girl?"

"Fay of course"

"Oh, the girl that was attacked?"

"Yes"

"So, do you need anything, should I bring anything for you, like tea or coffee, anything at all?"

"Are you trying to be sweet?. Who would have ever thought that Javier would care more about how I feel" she said with a slight smile.

"Mind you, I am just doing the needful" he smirked

"Of course, and mind you, I can be very demandful so you asking me what I want, can be a very terrible mistake" she teased

"You see, you have such a sharp mouth for someone who is sick"

"No amount of sickness can tame all of this" she said pointing to her face in a circular motion.

"I was thinking of going to the hospital to check out the cause of this" she added

"You want to go to the hospital?" Javier asked. He knew that she wasn't going to find anything because, if it was what he thought it was, then there was no way any Doctor could help her. He was the only person that could help her and put an end to it.

"Yes maybe later today. I can barely even stand she said as she held her forehead breathing in heavily.

**********************

Javier sat behind his desk in frustration. He watched as the lady, who came in for an interview walked away. This was the fifth person to come in and he still hasn't found anyone suitable for the job.

Being a personal assistant to a CEO is not something you come dressed up for. It's mostly about having something upstairs. It was about being smart and the ladies that kept coming for an interview, had no idea about it. They kept adding to his frustration as he was already frustrated by Hattie and the possible cause of her illness.

He took the glass of water that was on top his desk and he gulped it. There was another knock on the door and he knew it was another job aspirant.

He was really pissed off by the previous ones and he prayed and hoped that this one would be better. At least even though slightly better.

A lady who looked in her early twenties, having dark hair, dark eyes and pale skin walked in. She walked with so much confidence and Javier could sense a strong aura coming from her but he could not comprehend what it was. He looked at the the lady in front of him who had a little smile on her face. There was something about her and he couldn't seem to put his finger on it. She looked simple on the outside but Javier knew that there was more to her than she portrayed and he was going to find out. He knew his instincts could never fail him so when he senses something off? then that thing is off

"Who are you? Javier asked as he looked intently at the lady

"Am Stephanie"

"Stephanie Who?"

"Stephanie Jackson"

"And where are you from Stephanie?" he said, not removing his eyes from her as he wanted to note every of her behaviour to see if his assumptions were right.

"I'm from California"

"What have you been up to lately Stephanie?"

"I previously worked at an entertainment company"

"Why did you leave there?"

" because I heard your company was giving up an interview for a personal assistant and it sounded like a good offer, better than the job I was doing before" she spoke with a lot of confidence.

Javier already noted that she was a kind of person that portrayed a lot of courage.

"How long did you work there?"

"For about 5 years" she said as she looked at Javier straight in the eyes.

Javier still felt something about this girl and he wasn't getting as much information as he wanted. He perceived a stronger spirit in her that was too strong to belong to a human. There was something this girl was covering and she was really good at it.

"Who are you?" he asked again.

"I already told you"

"I don't think you told me enough"

"What do you want to know?"

"Why do I have a feeling that you did not just come in for an interview. As a matter of fact, you never wanted a job, so tell me why you are here. Tell me the real reason"

"I came here for a job at your company as a personal assistant to the CEO and I'm sticking to it" she said sarcastically with a little smile on the corner of her lips as her eyes flashed and emitted a slightly red colour.

Javier was stunned by the display but it only confirmed his suspicion. There was no way she was a normal person. she had to be a a supernatural being. Javier knew she was Supernatural, but he was sure that she was not a lashedta. A lashedta always had the ability to identify their kind. Since he still had doubt about her, it was most certainly that she was not a lashedta.

"What do you want? There is something you aren't telling me"

"Like what?"

"Don't play smart girl on me"

"I guess you are more smarter than I thought" she said as she stood up from her seat, walking slowly to the drinks stand that was at the right hand side of the office. She took out a champagne and and a cup which was just by the side. She popped open the champagne and poured it into her cup. She took the cup and proceeded back to her seat as she crossed her head and looked at Javier with a smile printed on her face.

Javier was amused by her audacity. Her courage was so disturbing and he didn't like it one bit. He looked at her with wonder as he couldn't deceiver what she was.

"I asked you a question?" Javier said already losing his patience. He decided to let her disrespect pass because he was still on to find out who she was.

"Oh"she replied as she took a sip from her glass cup

"I just came to drop an information" she added

"About what?"

"About Hattie" she said calmly

Javier shifted uncomfortably on his seat at the mention Hattie.

"What do you know about her"

"I know all there is to know about the girl"

"And who are you?"

"I am your worst nightmare" she said as her countenance changed from playful too dead serious

"Did you come to threaten me because if you did, it's not working"

"Tell me who you are this moment or you will not like my next reaction" Javier spat out feeling the anger building inside of him

"And this is my problem with lashedta, They think they are better and stronger than everyone. To be honest, when coming here, I expected nothing less than this character you just portrayed" she said as she dropped the glass cup on the desk then folded her arms under her breast.

"So I'm guessing that the interview nonsense was just a means for you to come in here"

"How did you know that I am a lashedta"

"I told You, I know more than you think I should. And about the interview, No, it wasn't a means to come in here. You know, I just like being dramatic. I thought to myself, pretending to be and aspirants for a job won't be such a bad idea"

"Trust me, I am smarter than you think. I knew there was more to you than you looked. Now tell me what are you here for?"

"I came here to warn you to stay away from Hattie"

"Are you joking and how do you know hattie" Javier couldn't help but show amusement towards the statement she made.

"Trust me, I know hurting more than you think you do and I know what you people did to her mother"

"What exactly are you saying?" Javier squinted his eyes in confusion. He realised that the lady in front of him knew a lot about what was going on everywhere

"I am saying that I won't let you people do to Hattie, what you did to agatha"

"What makes you think I would want to hurt her?"

"Because that was the same thing the lashedta did to Agatha"

"I was not part of Agatha's murder and please don't try to act as if a Agatha was a saint. We both know how deceitful and dangerous she was"

"Don't you dare talk about her like that! or I will rip your head out from its plug"

"So I want to understand, you came here to tell me to stay away from Hattie, because of what. Who are you to Agatha?"

" I'm her realm sister"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I didn't say it so that you could understand. All I am saying is leave Hattie alone"

"What if I don't?:

"Then be prepared to face the consequences. Trust me when I say I am more deadly and dangerous than Agatha could ever be. And you can't even get rid of me so don't think about it"

"Trust me when I say I am not the enemy"

"I don't care. A lashedta should never be anywhere close to her. it's unhealthy and you know it so stop being selfish and leave her alone"

"I am not being selfish and you need to watch your mouth" Javier said calmly, unaffected by the time she had in her voice.

"Oh please you and  I know what I am talking about.  you are slowly draining the life out of that girl"

"How would you know that?"

"I know more than what you think I do"

"Please leave my office this minute, while I'm still being nice" Javier breathed out as he looked at the lady in front of him tiredly

"I was just about to, I just decided to stop by and drop this warning" she stood up from her seat. She dropped the glass of drink on the table as she walked towards the door, squaring her shoulder. She turned to look at Javier

"Good luck on the interview" she winked and walked out

Javier banged his fist against his wooden desk, very hard. He cursed inwardly by the audacity of the lady that just left. He hated the fact that she wa right about him and hattie. He had early thought that Hattie was immune  to the side effect, but after seeing her this morning. He knew she wasn't.  He hated the fact that he was part of her suffering. A part of him wanted her safe and happy. He couldn't help but ache at the effect he was having on her.

Why did he feel so disturbed by her?. He had always had that question popping in and out of his head. It was known that a lashedta is only allowed and can only love once. That was how nature made it and there was no way that he could cheat nature. But why did he feel this way, why did he feel the way he felt when his lips caressed against hers, the day they shared a kiss.

He was still in thoughts when the door opened to his secretary.

"Sir that was the last person" Rachael said to Javier

"It's Ok, more would definetly come. Right now, I am not in the mood to interview anyone today" Javier had seen a lot just in a bid to find a personal assistant.

"You would just have to do the job for the main time"

"Ok sir" Rachael said bowing her head slightly and Javier nodded slightly, signalling her to leave. He really needed to be  alone at the moment.

Rachael made her way to the door as she stepped out.

Javier walked to the window side. He leaned towards to wall, pressing his weight against it. He looked at the view on the outside. The busy cars and all. His life was just like that, ever so filled with a lot of problems. He didn't remember the last time he slept without having anything to worry about. Andrew was once the only cause of his problem but now, he himself was topping that list. He sighed  as frustration and anxiety flooded him
