Chapter 26

Stephanie smiled in satisfaction as she exited thought the door. She was just few steps close to getting what she wanted. Having Hattie was the first step. Hattie was the only one capable of getting her what she actually wanted. She reached for her purse, rampaging through it, in search of a lipstick. She found one and applied it in a bid to renew her look. She placed the lipstick back in her purse, then proceeded her walking. She flaged down a cab

"Gladdies" she spoke out to the driver and he have her a nodd

Stephanie knew that she could not do anything, with Javier being around Hattie. So she needed to get Hattie away from him before carrying out the scheme. She smirked at her intentions and how smoothly it would go. She adjusted her hair while still in the cab, smiling over the view on the outside. She was definitely going to be able to reverse the curse once she get her hands on Hattie. How long she had searched for Agatha's child. Words couldn't describe the fulfilment and pride that she felt inwards.  Going to Javier and reminding him of the consequence, was a bid to discourage him about anything he hoped on getting with Hattie. She knew that it would only take a matter of time before he finally gives in and let's her go. With Javier being out of the way, she could finally do to Hattie what she intended on doing. But as it is, Hattie was untouchable as long a Javier was still by her side. She knew of Andrew's intention in killing Hattie. She really had to get to her first because if Andrew kills her, Hattie  would become useless to Stephanie. If she gets to Hattie first, she wouldn't have to regret anything. How much she hated the lashedtas. The thought of them always made her stomach turn and anger awake.

A Hyran and a lashedta were always like cats and dogs. They never got along. The lashedtas always made it a norm to show that they were stronger and they tend to exercise more authority. They also felt the need to take possession for what they wanted and they didn't care about anything. The hyrans saw the lashedtas as annoying and frustrating creature, that was why they never got along. A hyran had the power and ability to blend in amongst human and keep a low profile. While the lashedtas hardly does that, especially when they are in season. They naturally had hatred for  themselves, so when a lashedta came across a hyran, they always had a strange aura surrounding that person. Javier must have definitely felt it. That was why he kept looking at her that way.

Hattie adjusted her hair and she was about to leave her room, when the door opened and Javier walked in. He was really stunned at seeing her on her feet and looking very healthy

"You are much better?" He asked squinting his eyes in confusion

"Yes I am" she said with a sharp smile, turning to look at him

"How?"

"What do you mean by how, you did not want me to get better"

"It's just because.. it's nothing" he said brushing it off. How was she still healthy. It was really actually almost impossible for her to exhibit want she was portraying

"Anyways am going to work"

"Today?"

"Yes"

"You can't go"

"And why is that"

"You are still ill"

"No am actually fine, it turned out I was just hungry so that was why I was ill. Food they said, can do anything" she winked at Javier giving him a quick smile.  Javier stiffened up a bit. That smile was everything. What would he do if he ever decides to let her go.

"It's alright" he said still amused. Nature can never be cheated, so Hattie being like this was impossible. There was something she wasn't telling him.

"And you are sure, you are okay?" He said still trying to confirm his doubt

"Javier, what is the problem?" She said placing her hands on her hips as she looked at Javier who had this look in his eyes. Scrap that, he always had a look in his eyes, especially when he was staring at her. That look could make her go to planet mars and return for 7th time.

"It's alright. I just wanted to confirm if you are fit enough to be at work"

"Javier, I am. You worry so much"

"It's okay, just call me if you need anything"

" I think I'll be using my car today, I am fit to drive"

That's fine" Javier said walking toward the door. His mind was crowded with a  lot of question. What kind of power did this girl possess that he was able to overcome the after effect of being too attached to a lashedta.

Hattie adjusted herself one more time before finally exiting the room. She met a rather puzzled looking Javier by the balcony. He seemed lost in thought that he didn't notice when she walked in. His hair was kind messy but in a perfect way that made her drool. How could somebody be this hot without even trying.

"I didn't know you to be a heavy thinker, what changed?" she asked calmly. She watched as Javier's head, snapped towards where she was standing. He did not realise that she had been standing there

"Hattie" He called out "are you ready?"

"Yes I am"

"You said something about driving. I sent for someone to pick up your car. But if you can't wait, you could use one of my cars" he said and Hattie wondered the state of her car after being left for so long without being touched. It already had a fault of its own, while still in use.

"Urm no" Hattie declined

"I can't drive any of your cars"

"You can't drive?"

"No, your cars worth a fortune, what if I crash one of them"

"Stop being dramatic"

"Well I can't help it, I have a phobia for using way expensive things. Sometimes I think it might get spoilt" she teased. Of course that was a lie. She just enjoyed playing around with Javier. She loved seeing his 'not so serious so'.

"So you want to wait?"

"Most definitely" she said playfully crossing  her arms under her breast.

"I am dropping you off" he said as he stood up from where he was sitted and walked towards her

"You are?"

"Yes"

"What about your office?"

"It can wait"

"Oh Ok, since you have made up your mind, I guess i would have to accept your offer" Hattie said in a teasing tone which made Javier smirk slightly.

***********************

"How come I have never seen you with anybody, don't you have friends?" Hattie asked

"Says the girl that just made her first friend not too long ago" Javier replied with his eyes fixed on the road

"Hey don't push this back at me. I just have a problem In approaching people. So now answer my question. Why don't you have any friends?"

"Because I don't want to"

"Why"

"Because I don't have to"

"Do you have social anxiety?"

"Perks for talking with a psychologist. They always want to pry Into your mental status"

"Hey we are not like that. Well I am not like that. I was just curious about your social life"

"I don't need a social life"

"That means, you might have social anxiety"

"No Hattie, I don't.. I just distanced myself form people for a reason"

"Which is?"

"You sure ask a lot of questions" he said tireldly as he stired the wheel to the right, in order to make through a right turn

"That's because you always speak zig zag. Why won't I ask questions"

"I don't like people prying into my private life, That is why I keep no friends"

"I wonder why you are so on about your private affair and all"

"I like taking good care of my buiseness. It's not a crime Hattie"

"Javier" Hattie said as she turned to look at Javier who never took his eyes off the steering wheel.

"Who am I to you?" she added.  She could feel the air stop blowing as the car suddenly felt too hot. The question she dropped made her heart skip few beats as she waited patiently for a response.

"I don't know" Javier said. He didn't exactly lie about what he had said. The truth was that he was really confused on what he saw Hattie as. Hattie asking the question made him think alot and he couldn't think of a possible answer. He knew Hattie was more than a friend. Most definitely, more than a sister. But he couldn't find the right word to classify her under.

"Oh ok" she replied plainly, which made Javier long wonder what could be going on in her head. He noticed how her mood changed when he gave that reply. He ached to know what she was thinking about

"Are you okay?" Javier asked as he kept glancing towards her

"Yeah sure am fine"

"Glad to hear" Javier said as fixed his eyes back on the road

Hattie's heart ached with the way he brushed off the matter. She really wished that he was a little bit more persistent to find out what happened. She really wanted him to give her a little bit of attention rather that brushing off little matters.  But there was nothing she could do. He was right. Their relationship was quite confusing. Him saying that he didn't know, meant that they were nothing. She was right after all.

"Do you know of anyone named stephanie" Javier asked. He wanted to be sure if Stephanie had already showed herself to Hattie. Stephanie looked really sly, corny and manipulative. She definitely did not have good intention.

"Who is stephanie" possessive Hattie asked

"I asked a question, Hattie"

"No I don't know of anyone name  Stephanie, what about you?"

"What about me?"

"Yes"

"There is nothing to worry about me"

"Why did you ask me that question"

"I was just confirming something, miss Hattie"

"Like what?"

"I hate how inquisitive you can become"

"I am not inquisitive"

"Of course" Javier said sarcastically

"Whatever"

"Get down" Javier said calmly to her

"Why?"

"Aren't you intresting in going to work anymore?"

"Yes I am, and you said you were going to drop me off"

"And I just did" Javier said. Hattie looked around and realised that they were already at the hospital gate. She flushed in embarrassment. She was just really good at embarrassing herself.

"Oh I didn't realise" she said in more calm tone as she bowed her head slightly. Which made Javier chuckle

"Do you think, Andrew would come again?" she asked

"He wouldnt"

"How sure are you?"

"Andrew knows that i know about his visit so he wouldn't think of coming. He knows what would be waiting for him"

"What if he doesn't care and tries to..."

"He won't Hattie, trust me, I would be here, if you need me or not"

"How would you know that I am in danger"

"I would feel it"

"Ha ha ha very funny" Hattie gave a sarcastic tone to the laughter

"If you don't want to go work, we can have lunch at any resturant of your choice" Javier teased

"Young man, you can't just take me out when you feel like it. All of this, Is not free" she said playfully, pointing her finger to her body in a dramatic way

"I see you don't feel like being at work today, judging from the fact that you have been sitting down here for over 5 minutes, taking. Do you enjoy my company that much?" Javier teased

"Don't flatter yourself, am leaving" Hattie said opening the car door. She stole one glance from Javier before exiting.

Javier felt a slight sting in his heart as he watched her leave. He didn't remember the last time, He enjoyed anyone's company the way he did to Hattie's. He had always been a very tough and difficult person please. He enjoyed  being by himself, Having his space to himself, rather than being around annoying humans. No one ever told him he would ever enjoys anyone's company the way he did to Hattie. The way he looked forward to seeing her everyday. The way he always played attention to what she had to say and noted every detail.  The way he longed to here her complains every day.

Javier held the steering as he drove away.

Hattie walked through the hall way of the hospital. Picking up Fay was her primary reason for coming to work today. She had heard that Fay was due for discharge today. She made her way down to Fay section . She stopped In front of  ward 8, which was where Fay currently stayed. Hattie walked in and found Fay standing by the window, checking the view on th outside

"Fay" Hattie called out, tying to get her attention

Fay turned to look at Hattie and her face beamed with excitement. Her blonde hair was really messy, from lack of proper care but Fay still looked as beautiful as always

"You came to check on me?"

"Yes, I heard you were going to be discharged today"

"Yes, technically I am"

"I came to pick you up, you would be following me to my house after my work for today"

"I still don't know how to thank you though"

"It's okay" Hattie waved it off.

"We kind of have a lot of talking about to do"

"About the accident?"

"No about you"

"What about me?"

"Everything about you, ranging from your parents and how you ended up sleeping at the reaturant"

"I don't really want to talk it" Fay said, bowing her head slightly looking at the floor.

Hattie noticed how her countenance changed after she asked the question. Fay looked really affected by the question and Hattie knew that it triggered something. Hattie felt guilty, but it wasn't her fault, she really wanted to know more about her.

"Did i say something wrong?" Hattie asked, worried that she could have done something

"No it's fine, it's just that, I have been through alot so I feel a little triggered when asked those kind of question"

"Am so sorry, I didn't mean to. Honest"

"It's okay, you have every right to know. I understand you want to know everything about me since you are taking me into your house anyways"

"If you don't feel like taking about it, you can drop it. We could talk about it later. I have a good listening ear and I would always be here If you need anybody to talk to"

"Thanks alot" Fay said with a slight smile.

Hattie wondered why she felt really connected to Fay. She felt the need to help Fay so badly. It really disturbed Hattie when she heard about the accident. Now that she was with Fay, Hattie knew that she had to protect Fay at all cost and prevent anything drought from causing any problem.
