Chapter 54

Daphne sat next to Peter on her huge couch, munching on the tacos that she had just unwrapped from the pack. Looking intently at the television screen, she felt lost in it, deeply engrossed in the show that was being aired. She was about reaching for another piece of snack when her phone rang, causing her eyes to break contact with the television screen. She stared at her phone and it was Javier. Dropping the tacos pack on the couch, she picked up her phone and held it to her ear

"Javier" she called out still chewing the remains of the snack that still lingered in my mouth

"Daphne" he called out to her "Hattie is back" he blurted out  and Daphne almost screamed out of surprise

"You mean?" Daphne asked in disbelief "hold on, How did she, did you bring her?.

"She was back since last week" Javier announced

"Wait, back from where? Why didn't you tell me when she got back" Daphne asked, confused. It was clear that nobody knew of her whereabouts, now, all of a sudden she resurfaced. It really called for a lot  questioning

"I will explain to you later" when Javier said explain, he meant manipulate, he knew that Daphne was really smart and she will never buy any excuse that he chose to give. The best way was to manipulate her into believing any explanation that he gave her. That way would, it would be less stressful

"Anyways" she said cautiously "when do I come over?" she really needed to see Hattie for herself and do some questioning and of course, because she missed her bestfriend so much.

"Not now" Javier said plainly

"And why is that?" Daphne snapped

"She is still badly injured and kind of weak, she needs space"

"Yeah from you and not me, did you take her to the hospital?"

"No I arranged for a doctor to treat her. A home service doctor"

"Why didn't you just get her to the hospital" Daphne asked confusingly

"Because I don't want to, I don't want her out of my sight   so that's why I chose to keep her here"

"Anyways, I will be coming over today" Daphne stated and ended the call

"Hattie is back" she announced to Peter, although she still had some doubt about the news. She would have to see for herself to actually believe. She watched as his eyes widened in shock

"She is? When did she come back?" Peter asked, sitting up in anticipation

"I don't know, Javier just told me about it but I feel like he is hurdling something from me"

"Like what?"

"Hattie was missing and she just appeared all of a sudden out of no where and he doesn't want to tell me how she got back"

"Shouldn't you be happy?" Peter asked

" Of course I am happy but i can't help but have mixed feeling about that guy"

"Isn't that a best friend's thing? Hating on each others boyfriend" Peter said amidst a chuckle

"No it isnt" Daphne laughed at the statement. "Hattie doesn't hate you and I most definetly do not hate Javier, I just feel he is very different and there is something off about him"

"You should have really gone for law, you would make a fine detective" Peter said slouching back on the couch

"Only nosey people fit the role of a detective and I am not nosey"

"Says the girl that always read meaning to everything. You always want to find more when there is absolutely nothing to even worry about.  Don't even get me started on your constant going through my phone" Peter announced and caught Daphne by surprise

"I don't go through your phone" she said in really quiet tone like a kid that was caught directly in the act

"You thought I wouldn't know?" Peter smirked at her reaction "I guess you are busted mi lady" he teased

"I guess I wouldn't be going over to Javier's then" she said.  Peter really had a point, she was being too nosey and it could really get her into a lot of trouble if at all Javier was really a mafia don

"Anyways, How well did he say Hattie is doing?"

"He said she Is still quite weak" Daphne admitted with a worried expression taking over her face

"She Is going to be fine, the most important thing is that she is back and that's what matters" Peter assured her

Javier opened the door with his hands filled to the brim with a tray of food that he had just finished preparing. He walked towards her and placed the tray on the wooden table beside her bed. He took a look at her. She was looking and much better and healthier. Her skin had gotten part of its glow back and her bones were less visible. It was just a week of her return and he loved the way things were going. She was really responding to the treatments that where given to her and she was gradually begining to stop her toxic trait towards him

"How are you feeling?" He asked, as he watched her struggle to sit up

"Much better than yesterday" she announced, saying it in the most formal way she could think off. This was how she wanted things to be, at least for the mean time. She was slowly beginning to see reasons with him even though what he did to her was uncalled for. He wasn't a human like her so they most definetly had different method of reasoning. The fact that she was starting to forgive him didn't really mean that they would go back to the way they were before. She wanted to take things slowly to ensure that her heart heals properly from everything that she had gone through

"Am glad you are, well I made breakfast" he said, tugging a strand of hair behind his ear

"Thanks" she muttered under her breath, reaching for the tray and Javier aided her in putting the tray on her laps

"Thanks" she whispered and grabbed the fork, stabbing the  bacon to get it on her fork. She placed the half bacon in her mouth, chewing continuously and uncomfortably because she was aware of Javier's peering eyes on her. It made her stomach flip and the butterflies erupt with reckless abandon. She hated the fact that he still had that effect on her and this was one of the reason why she couldn't stay angry and she really wanted to. She could fake it anyways.

She kept on eating and Javier kept on staring at her which made the food barely pass through her throat. She got too uncomfortable to the extent of hitting the fork against the plate, slightly in a repetitious manner

"What?" she couldn't help but ask when he wouldn't take his eyes off her. She turned to him and he gave her a questioning look.

"Why are you staring at me" she asked, giving off a tired look in her eyes

"I like watching you eat" he said too plainly compared to Hattie's reaction. She almost choked on the bacon that she had placed inside of her mouth. Javier noticed and handed her the glass of water that was by the side of the tray. "And also you aren't touching your omlet" he asked when her agitation had calmed down

"I'm egg intolerance" she said and Javier's eyes widened on realisation

"You should have said something"

"I didn't feel like" she shrugged "I wasn't going to touch it anyway," she said and Javier chuckled  at her bossy nature

"Just eat the bacon, I will prepare something else"

"It's fine, Am full anyways. I'm just glad that my appetite is back. I couldn't stand the sight of food, days back"

"Yeah tell me about it" Javier said sarcastically and Hattie couldn't help but smile. She suddenly realised that she was smiling and mentally faced Palmed her self for showing emotions. She was supposed to be angry and here she was smiling sheepishly at the person she was supposed to be angry at

"Can you do me a favour?" she asked and Javier gave her a nod in a bid to encourage her in saying what she wanted

"I want to go outside" she said pressing her lips together, hoping he wouldn't be his bossy self and deny her all in the name of her being weak

"Hattie you can barely walk" he noted

"I walked to the bathroom this morning" she said fastly, trying to prove a point

"Still, you are slightly weak."

"Am stronger than you think. I just want to feel the atmosphere for a while. It's been quite long I went outside  and it feels like ages. Even if it's just a peep at the garden that I keep on seeing from the window"

"That's my garden and you have been there" Javier said still having second thoughts toward letting her go outside. The last thing he wanted to do was strain her

"No I haven't" Hattie said sincerely

"You haven't? I thought..." it was there realisation hit him that he had never really taken her to that garden. It was quite hidden and could only be seen from his room window. That was his favourite part of his house. His thinking spot. It was the closest thing to nature in his house and he really appreciate it.

"Do you wanna go there now?" Javier asked

"Yeah am ready" Hattie said and Javier could see her beem with excitement. He grabbed the tray from her laps and layed it on the wooden table, making a slight noise on contact with the table. He held her by her hand to support her as she tried to get up.

The moment her legs came in contact with the floor, she felt a slight pain from the Injury that was on her left leg. She pressed her lips together, trying her possible best to bear the pain. She really needed to prove Javier wrong that she was fit enough to move around

They proceeded to the door with Javier trailing behind her after several attempt to help her from falling. He held the door knob, in the process, trapping her slightly, between himself and the door and she forgot how to breath for a second. Her body heated up as a result of the close contact between the two of them. Javier proceeded in opening the door and they both walked out.

Hattie carefully made her way down the stairs, taking one foot at a time, in order not to further upset her leg. She was about to take the last step on the stairs when she winced in pain as a result of how fast she moved. Her legs ached slightly, making her stop for a moment

"I can't do this" she heard from behind and swiftly, Javier slipped his hands underneath her waist and carried her up with her face pressing against his hard chest. She flushed as a result of the contact. This wasn't the first time he was carrying her bridal style but her reaction was like it was the first

She breathed in, drawing in his fresh manly scent that filled her nose. She bit her lips nervously as he proceeded in walking towards the door. Her eyes got hold of his stubbles and how badly she wanted to run her hands through it. She couldn't bring her self to stop looking at his perfect Greek sculpted face. It was too perfect and she wondered how it was even possible for somebody to be that perfect.

They walked outside, with Hattie still wrapped in his arms. The cool wind that blew tickled  her soft skin and caused her hair to go in different direction.

They walked to the garden and Hattie couldn't help but awe at how beautiful the garden was. It was much prettier than the view from a window glass. The flowers were most definetly rare and beautiful. She loved it
