I turn and my eyes follow the line of sight which Scott points to me with his fork. I scan a sea of faces and see if anyone is particularly staring at me. Almost a dozen eyes meet mine, but they glance away as quickly as they caught my attention, only one pair of insistent eyes remain.
For a minute l can't seem to place where I'd seen that face before but then the memory comes rushing back to me. A scowl forming on my face at the sight of me trying to help him up, and him just pushing me back into the mud once more.
I didn't realise I was still facing him as a flurry of expressions fly across his face. "Is there like some silent telepathic thing going on between you two?" Scott asks and I revert my attention back to him. He's smiling sheepishly and I know something is up his sleeve. He looks extra fine when he smiles like that, but I'm not one to be fooled by his looks anymore.
"What are you planning?" I ask him staring intently at the silken black curls playing on his head. His mouth takes an embarrassed form as he just can't seem to get his face to cooperate with his intentions. I laugh as he struggles to hold himself back from smiling, and finally gives up with a groan.
"What are you up tooooo?" I say dragging out my last word. He ignores me like I'm not even there and Eras chuckles "Are you two always like this?" He asks and I poke Scott with a fork. "Eras, you're new aren't you. Tell us something of your past school, y'know stuff like that" I can guess Scott's intentions with this diversion and I almost want to laugh at him, and tell him it won't work. It works.
I also seem to have an even bigger urge to know just about everything I can about Eras, not in that way, but in a way that tells him he's at least made his first friend or first two friends.
"Well I was born in Korea actually, my mom and Dad had to go there on a buisness trip and she was already heavy with me. The moment she came down from the plane, I decided I'd had enough of the womb and craved the free world. She gave birth to me. I grew up in Britain with an aunt. They came to check on me regularly but decided I should stay in the country so I wouldn't miss out on much of my schooling. I was in my finals last year when the school got razed. I transferred here and have come to stay with my aunt".
He's eating and talking at the same time so I can't see his eyes, but I have a pretty good notion of what would be behind them, surprisingly Scott squeezes his hands and let's go, a sign of understanding if you will. We also know what it's like to miss your parents but not have the guts to ask for them back.
