As much as I find this conversation oddly comfortable, I also find it oddly surprising. Even when we were together I don't think Aaron and I have ever had this sort of conversation. We have never had this sort of heart to heart conversation, which involved speaking about the stereotypes that society has assigned to us as people.
"But it shouldn't be so should it?. Society shouldn't get to dictate how I will live my life or how people should expect me to live it. What if I was a boy and I decide to be quiet and simply live my own life as a crerin for the rest of my days?".
"Then you would get a nickname from your friends, you will be bullied and seen as less than everyone else who is around you. It isn't just a stereotype at some point, it is a way of survival".
I smile a wide smile at this because I never knew Aron had such insight to him.
He had always been a collection of fine faces and beautiful attitudes to me, an attitude that made me feel i wanted to be near him at every moment.
To be sincere, this insightful part of him has only been shown to me a few times, and I find myself amazed at this.
"Can you elaborate on that?" I ask and for a moment I almost think he would back out. For a moment I almost think he would back down and simply wave off my request with a laugh.
Instead he continues staring into the distance, practically considering a visual image of the society as it is.
"The genders that society has assigned to us isn't really based on our worth as people as much as they make it to seem. The male gender simply has to be outgoing, they have to see what they want and they have to achieve it by all means, they need to love football, or love some other hardcore sport. It is simply a requirement when it comes down to it, a man doesn't like reading books, a man doesn't like writing novels or being on hair stylist, or being a fashion designer. The man who is an engineer, a doctor or hockey player, a footballer, that is what the society has assigned to us as men. It is what is expected of us. You don't see a man getting overly emotional over the slightest things, that is the job of a woman according to the precepts of society.
The same way society has simply made men seem like machines who are not able to feel anything, and who think of themselves first, so has it also decided to assign specific functions to women. Women can never be overly transcendent of their families, they cannot have ambitions outside of what their husband want for them, they cannot decide to go against the wishes of some particular set of people. It is simply absurd for a woman to become a professional footballer, or for her to become a wrestler, or for her to decide to become a mechanic. It is simply absurd, that is what the world has made it to be.
We have specific roles assigned to us as people, even if we do not particularly want it".
