She moved closer to them as the lady he was standing with was becoming clearer to her.
It was Rebecca!
Yes, Rebecca!
She didn't look like the pictures, she looked more mature and she hated to admit how beautiful she was in person. Rebecca was tall and had black hair.
Raymond had looked in her direction, and his attention moved to her.
"Hey, you." He said.
For Raymond, the wedding was great, but weddings weren't really his favorite place to be. There were usually too many people and most would want to get a conversation from him.
He didn't know Rebecca was coming, having a chat with her wasn't that bad, it's been a while since they saw each other. She was acting a little different, considering how she is when ever they meet.
She could be finally out of it, out of her obsession for him. He hoped she was leaving soon. He knew that Rebecca's presence was never a good cause, she couldn't stay in a place and not stare things up.
He had immediately noticed Amanda and he was relieved because the only thing he achieved that day was looking for her, all day.
"Hey" He heard Amanda respond to him.
"I have been looking for you everywhere." He said as he reached for her, giving her a peck on the cheek.
"Amanda this is Rebecca," Ray said as he proceeded with introducing the women to each other.
Oh, hi," Rebecca responded with a straight face.
Rebecca's phone rang, she reached for her purse, taking out the phone.
"We can do this some other time, she said, reaching Ray's face, patting it lightly before caressing it.
"Yea, sure " Ray responded as she made her way out of their company.
Amanda thought it obvious that Rebecca didn't actually care or want to know who she was. She seemed still into Ray because she was flirting with him and she could swear that her judgment was not based on the fact they had a history in the past. She was beautiful, her face could easily be used to measure beauty standards. Tall, really full outstanding eyebrows and lashes. Very pointy but tiny nose. Well, her lips were beautiful but weren't Amanda's favorite part of her face. She was slender and just perfect.
"I don't think she likes me," Amanda said, taking her view off Rebecca who had finally left the garden.
"It doesn't matter what she thinks about you." He said.
"She reached to him, wrapping her hands around his waist before speaking.
"I don't like the way her hands were all over you," Amanda said with her gaze directly on Rays.
"Are you jealous?" Ray asked with a faint smile.
Amanda made a shy face as she tried hiding her face from his view.
"Yes," she admitted shyly.
"You ruined our plan."
"We planned to have me bent in a corner." She said as he tightened her grip on his waist.
"Our plan was in ten minutes." Ray countered her accusation
"You had other plans, I looked for you, even called your phone." He added.
"Sorry, it was Lang's plan that we go get a photo with celebrities."
"It's fine, we have a lot of ten minutes to ourselves tonight," Ray said as he leaned in and they shared a brief kiss.
They went home from there. On their way home, Ray thought it was time he officially told her about himself and Rebecca since she had already met Rebecca.
"We used to be together eight years ago." Ray said before pausing to see what her reaction would be, but she didn't give any.
"My self and Rebecca." He added.
Although we started eleven years ago, so we were together for three years. We were friends way before we had any sexual encounter" He added and still, no response from Amanda.
"We ended badly, especially for her because she was not ready to let go yet. Though it has changed because we both have moved on."
"I wish I could tell you why we had initially broken up, but maybe not today."
"Did you really love her?" She finally broke her silence with the most cliche question of all time.
He paused, thinking of the question and answer carefully. He won't lie to her. He is just not that guy that felt comfortable lying. Because it made him feel little.
"To be honest, yes I did." He admitted.
"At some point." He added.
"Do you still feel anything for her?" He heard her ask with a trembling voice. He tried to find her face, she had a straight face and looked calm.
"No, not at all." Rebecca grew into what I wanted to get away from towards the end, she became who I never want to share my time or life with."
"I can't get into this with you, or maybe not now. I just wanted to tell you what exactly we had between us so we can move past my past with Rebecca."
Ray appreciated how she did a lot of listening and her calmness when they needed to get things straightened out. He loved her comportment compartment and he would choose her again if he had to.
Amanda appreciated him telling her the truth. But hearing him admit he once loved her still caused a strain in her heart.
She couldn't also help but wonder if she would one day grow into what he wouldn't want to share his life with anymore. She was slightly worried about that and she hoped that would not be their story. Ray had become part of her life and she couldn't imagine them apart. He was sweet and treated her nicely so she hoped he wouldn't wake up one day and decided that she wasn't right for him anymore.
They were not of the same class, but he showed her off to anyone who cared to know.
Just after that thought, she felt Ray's palm on her hands which were on her thighs. He caressed it before squeezing them.
"It's me and you now, no one else." He said.
Ray said that just at the right time and that gave her all the assurance she needed.
It was a week after the wedding already. Amanda had cleared her desk and was a little free. Amanda had stormed into Beatrice and Paul's wedding pictures on Instagram. They always looked happy together, she must admit. It was a beautiful picture, they both smiled from cheek to cheek gazing at each other. She dropped a like on the picture before Ray walked in.
It was past eleven in the morning, so he came at the expected time.
"Good morning." She greeted with a bright smile.
"Good morning." He responded before reaching her, and they shared a kiss.
"Look what I found." She said excitedly, moving her phone to his face.
She moved closer to him, getting a peek of the couple again with the same exciting smile.
"Aren't they cute?" She asked.
"Yes, just like she was cute with her last two ex-husbands"
The smile on Amanda's face vanished. She didn't know Beatrice had been married before, and not just once but twice. She brushed the thought off, it wasn't important anymore. Love is love she thought.
"Well, third time is the charm," Amanda said sarcastically as she retreated her phone from Ray.
"I do hope so because I will not be found at her fourth wedding," Ray said as he now stood erect, away from her counter.
Amanda let it a laugh before speaking.
"You just hating because no one wants to marry you,"
She said with a smile in a sarcastic tone.
"You don't?" Ray asked in a direct tone which made her pause to think of it.
She didn't think! She just immediately imagined her self in a wedding gown with Ray as her husband.
Her face must have given away her thought because Ray seemed to notice how the thought of marrying him made her feel.
"I thought as much" He added sarcastically before making his way to his office entrance.
But he paused...
Besides as we both can testify, I'm a hot commodity in the market. Don't play with what you have."
Amanda bust into laughter as he smiled and made his at to his office.
Work was going great, she had gone to Lang's office as they had a little chit chat. It was soon lunch time. She made Ray a box of jollof rice which she took to him. While she went to lunch break with Lang.
They returned after forty minutes and went back to work.
Twenty minutes later, she received a visitor she rather not receive.
It was Rebecca. She wore her long hair neatly in a ponytail. She wore an elegant cooperate dress. The gown had long lace sleeves and the other part had a silky material. The dress was hugging her body and was below her knee, but had a part by the back.
She accompanied that black dress with a red ropy shoe which showed her simultaneously arranged toes.
"Hello dear," Rebecca said with a smile that didn't exceed her lips.
