Lanre thought for a while. Then she rejected his proposal. She wasn’t going to let someone come up her page on Instagram and start stalking her. She felt he must be a stalker for him to have taken her number from someone she barely knows only because he thought she’s beautiful. And then he decided to call her with a private number so even if she wants to find him out, she won’t be able to. Who knows if he lied about his name?
The caller didn’t ask her anymore for her username on IG anymore after she declined him on the first one. He ended the call. Lanre breathed in relief.
“Hope I will be safe in this wedding I will be going to. I don’t want anybody stalking me!” She said out loud. Then she lied down on her bed so she can sleep for at least an hour. Then wake up, eat something and prepare to go out with Okechukwu.
..........................................
Lanre woke up to the sound of the phone ringing. She knew someone was calling her. She was always responsive to calls no matter how deep asleep she is. If it is an alarm ringing, she may not attend to it, but she can’t explain how her mind could differentiate the ringing tones that she end up taking calls from her sleep but does not hear her alarm ringing most times.
Lanre already answered the call before she knew who it was that was calling. “Lanre, please pack our things, we are taking a night flight to Abuja”. That was Ify’s voice. Lanre frowns and puts her head in the pillow. “Ok!” She said in a muffled voice. And ended the call. She closes her eyes to continue her sleep when Ify’s words sounded as a replay in her head.
Lanre opened her eyes like she was the undertaker sprouting up from the bed like a seedling. “What?” She half yelled. Then she told herself she must have heard wrongly. She took her phone and called Ify.
“Babe, abeg, my mind de tell me say e be like say you tell me something, but I no hear. You fit knack am for my ear again make I hear?”. Lanre said to Ify once she knew that Ify had answered the phone. In her words, “Babe, please, it seems you said something but I didn’t get you right. Can you repeat what you said?”
“Lanre I’m on my way coming as it is. My cousin said we should be in Abuja before today runs out completely. And it is important we go now”. Ify said. Lanre could not believe her ears. She hates being taken unawares especially if it will affect her schedule for the day. What is she going to tell Okechukwu now? He will be disappointed and may think she was just trying to play him in the first place.
“Ify can’t it be tomorrow?” Lanre asked. “Sorry for the inconvenience Lanre. But I already booked the flight. Just coming to change and pick you up as well”. Ify said.
