Where Is Lanre

“Lanre! Wake up!” Ify stood by Lanre’s bed. She was dressed ready to go for an early morning jog. Lanre pushed Ify away sleepily. She wanted to sleep some more. She had slept really late. She didn’t sleep until 3am in the morning. She had spent her night on net, reading trending stories and watching comedy skits as well as dance videos.

“Lanre get up let’s go jogging”. Ify pulling Lanre by the hand.

“Ify leave me now! Since when did I start jogging? Biko Aapumaka o!” Lanre said using the Igbo language to tell Ify to leave her alone. “Lanre, at least start today so you can keep fit”. Ify said. Lanre hissed. She didn’t need such jogging exercise. It does not work for her. She would rather dance than jog.

“Ify it is two things I hate. And you are doing one at the same time trying to push me into the other. Allow me to sleep please. I don’t want to have headache bikonu!” Lanre said turning to face the other side where Ify was not standing. Ify had no other option but to leave Lanre alone to continue her sleep.

“Where is Lanre?” Anita asked when Ify came outside without Lanre. “I think she is having headache. Maybe she didn’t sleep at night”. Ify said. “Why?” Anita asked. “It may be because she is yet to be familiar with this place. If Lanre goes to a place for the first time, she can barely sleep”. Ify replied. Anita shook her head slightly. Then the two young ladies went jogging.

......................

Lanre could no longer sleep after Ify had woken her up. Tears dropped out of her eyes involuntarily. Her eyes hurt and her head aches. This is the repercussion for not sleeping. She looked at time to see it was just 5 am. What would she be doing by this time, definitely not jogging. She got out of the beds and went into the bathroom. She took off her clothes and bad a cold shower. She allowed the water to wet her hair so her scalp can feed on water. She needed something cool on her head to calm the head ache. After staying over 15 minutes in the shower, Lanre came out of the bathroom. She didn’t even dry herself. She walked to the door and locked it so no one disturbs her again. She breathed in relief realising that the head ache has reduced.

Instead of sleeping she opened her phone and started to reply messages from the last night which she didn’t reply. Then she came across a message, “Missing you! Wish you were here!”. She looks at the sender’s number to see if she is familiar with it because it wasn’t saved up on her contact list. She had to view the profile picture to know it is Okechukwu. She hissed. They were yet to start anything and he is already missing her. By the time they get into the relationship, he must have used up all the “missing you”. She thought.
