Lanre decided to skip Okechukwu’s message. She was not going to reply that. If he had said something else that would lead to a proper discussion, she would have replied. The next message she saw was from her brother. She looked at it. She didn’t want to read it. The only reason she wanted to call him was because her mother had asked her to. She hates talking to him because he barely checks on her. She won’t doubt it if he comes and tell her he does not know what level she is in school. He does not even know she will be defending her project very soon. And then if her mother should tell him that she has done something wrong, he will take it up as if he is her father wanting to punish her.
She moved from replying chats to viewing people’s status. “Oh my God! This is mega!” She said when she saw a video of her secondary school friend getting engaged. She sent her a congratulatory message. “It is nice, but I do not think I want that for myself at this point in my life. This is the time to pursue my career and grow my self confidence. I need to make it big before getting married. I do not want anybody that thinks of himself as a man to come into my life and start playing god. I want to have my own say. And the only way to having your own say is to have money, huge money”. Lanre said to herself.

“Do you like this one?” Anita asked Lanre. Lanre shook her head. “It is too pointy”. She said. She did not like the shoe. They had come to shop for shoes. Well, Anita already shopped for her things, but she could not do same for Lanre since she was not available. She didn’t want to buy something that Lanre would end up not liking.
“Lanre, which one will you like then? Is your choice even in existence?” Ify asked Lanre. Lanre looked at Ify. She eyes her disapprovingly. “No! Cause they gave birth to me in the wrong time and space”. Lanre replied with sarcasm. “Sorry ma!” Ify replied.
“please, where is the local market around here, let me go and get what I want”. Lanre said. Anita looked at her. “You are not wearing an OK shoe for my wedding”. Anita said. Lanre smiled. “I ain’t buying OK! I was going to go into various different shoe shops and get something nice.
“Oh! Wouldn’t that be stressful?” Anita asked. “No!” Lanre replied.
“Lanre that is not happening. Anita can’t go to such places”. Ify said. “Who said she is going to go with me?” Lanre asked. Ify kept mute. Lanre got up before them. “Are we leaving or not?” Lanre asked.
“Ma’am, what do you say about this? I am sure it will be perfect for you and will match your taste”. The attendant said holding a glass stiletto.
