Like A Lout

“So you don’t know that your friend behaves like she doesn’t care and she also acts like a lout?” Anita asked. “So are you trying to say all warri girls are louts?” Ify asked. “Have you encourage any of them before?” Ify asked again.

“Well, that is what all the comedians from that area say”. Anita said. “Well, that does not mean it is true. I mean, they always say the Igbos are all cheats when it come to business and that the ladies among them only go for rich men, for their money. But that is not true. You can’t with the selected few, judge the whole house”. Ify said to Anita.

“Whatever! I am going to take my bath”. Anita said walking out of the room.

“Well, turns out Lanre’s strategy worked after all”. Ify muttered. But she knew that was Lanre. Although she does not know why her friend has stopped talking to her. For the past three days, Lanre has not said a word to her. Even if she talked to her herself, it would be as if she was talking to the wind, because Lanre would not reply her. Maybe during the wedding reception or after or probably before she will confront Lanre. Maybe after everything wil be better. She thought. Then she decided to go take her bath since the bride was already bathing.

Meanwhile, Lanre didn’t actually leave. She stood by the door waiting to know if Anita would change her mind and decide to go have her bath. But what Anita had said broke her heart. Anita has just called her a lout. So when she overheard Anita say she was going to take her bath, she didn’t feel proud of her achievement. She has already been insulted for it by the person she was trying to help. She walked away with her arms folded.

“Lanre, drop this attitude! You will be fine. Abi curse de kill goat? If e no fit kill goat, e no fit kill you”. Lanre said to herself trying to encourage herself with the fact that since a goat get insulted and does not die, how much more herself. She told herself she won’t die just because she got Insulted.

She went to the visitors room which she was assigned into. She picked up her phone and called her mother. She knew her mom will be awake by this time because it was a normal routine. Her mom wakes up by 3 in the morning when it is still very dark. This is because of the nature of her business. She needed to wake up early and start to prepare the food she will take to her restaurant to sell. That was for those who come very early in the morning to patronise her. If she does not do that, she will end up losing her morning customers. Any other food, they prepare it at the restaurant. By then her workers will be available. They start resuming from 7 o’clock.
