“Hello! Iyami!”Lanre called. “Iyami” means my mother in the native Yoruba. “Lanre, how are you?” Her mom asked. “I’m fine Iyami! Ekaro!” She said greeting her mom good morning. Her mom answered and asked her why she decided to call at such hour.
“I just want to hear your voice na. And I know you will be awake by this time”. Lanre replied.
“Shey you know I will also be cooking by this time? Or you want me to dip my hand inside fire because of your call?” Lanre mother asked. Lanre laughed.
“Iyami, that can’t happen. It is impossiscant!” Lanre said.
“I hope you told use that stupid word you feel is grammar in your field of journalism. Do not go into it and disgrace me thinking you are speaking grammar, and you start saying “impossicant” everywhere you go?” Lanre mother asked.
Lanre laughed. She knew her mother will say this. “Do not worry! I will make you proud”. Lanre said to her mom. “Ok na! Let me not stop you from cooking this morning, since you will need to have something to sell to your customers this morning. I pray you sell well. And that good customers come to your restaurant. May all evil eyes be blinded in Jesus name!” Lanre prayed.
Mrs Olayinka shouted a loud amen. “This is my daughter. Thank God you are not like all those girls that do not know how to pray”. Her mother said. “Remember to always be prayerful and live right. Thank God you are done with school. It is work that is remaining”. Her mom said.
Lanre laughed. Her mom has forgotten she was yet to serve. And she was definitely not done with school. She was only done with this phase. After now, she will be going for her masters and then PhD. She told her mom not to worry. Then she hanged up.
She went took off her clothes. Took her towel and went inside the bathroom to go take her bath. She should bath now since the bride was probably still bathing or probably done.
After taking her bath, Lanre wore a short and a singlet. She went out of the visitor’s room. She headed for the bride’s room. But ended up meeting with Anita’s mother on the way.
“Lanre my dear, haven’t you taken your bath yet?” The woman asked. Lanre told her she already did and that she was going to check on the bride.
“Why are you not dressed yet?” Anita’s mother asked her. Lanre smiled. She knew the woman was just anxious and trying to be careful.
“Ma, the wedding will be by 10 o’clock. Make up will be by 6 or 7 o’clock. We will definitely get there on time, so you shouldn’t worry. If the make up artist turns out to be slow, I will do that of Ify’s and some other girls as well as mine to make it easier”. Lanre said.
“You are a make up artist?” Anita’s mother asked. “Yes ma! I went for training and got a certificate for it before I gained admission. Most times I do that in school to help myself”. Lanre replied the woman.
