Right now Anita stood trying to wave off the regret she was feeling. K has been her crush since she could remember. But he has always friend zoned her. And now she was getting married to his friend. The only reason she agreed to date Michael in the first place was to be close to K. Well, she was not expecting a flirt like Michael to propose and then finally ready to walk her to the altar. Each day she wakes up and see herself getting closer to that day, she wants to run backwards. But there is no portal into the past. She touched the corner of her eyes with her fingers and wiped out the tears from her eyes.
“Anything for you my crush! Even Lanre”. She muttered. Then she turns and walked back into the shoe store. “Let’s go!” She said to Lanre and Ify. So they both stood up and followed her.
“Lanre, are you going to leave the shoes here?” Anita asked. “Lanre looks at the bag containing the shoes. “Do you know him?” She asked Anita. “Does it even matter?” Anita asked. “A gentle man who felt he should help a beauty, his effort should not be side lined”. Anita said. “I only went to thank him. That’s all”. She said to Lanre who looks at her suspiciously.
Ify turned and carried the bag containing the shoes. “I’m out of here”. Ify said walking out of the shop. Anita followed suit with Lanre behind her. Once they got to the car, Ify sat on the front seat at the passenger’s side. Lanre sat behind while Anita drove.
.............................
“Ify, I don’t like the way you act some times. We are friends, but the way you talk to me most times, I wonder. You did that today at the shoe store. Then you are always talking. The other day, your cousin asked if I had a boyfriend. You did not allow me to answer for myself, you just jumped in. If we are not close, I won’t tell you this”. Lanre said to Ify. Lanre had gone to Ify’s room to talk to her. She was feeling bad. All she could think of was that Ify was belittling her. Age didn’t want a situation where she will suddenly cut Ify off. So she had to go tell her so everything can get off her chest. The last thing she wanted was a fight between her and her best friend.
Ify looks at Lanre baffled. “Lanre, how did I talk to you that sounds offensive? Besides, when I told Anita you had a boyfriend, was I lying?” Ify asked. She had this, “I and sure I’m not at fault” disposition. Lanre shook her head.”Ify are you apologising or not?” Lanre asked. Ify shook her head telling Lanre she was not going to apologise. She felt Lanre was always wanting things to go her way.
Lanre looked at Ify vexed that Ify wouldn’t accept that she is wrong.
