K left for his car. He was not going to join others in the car touring them to the reception venue. He was too big for that.
Meanwhile Lanre sat in Gozie’s car while he drove.
“So, you are Lanre?” Gozie asked. Lanre answered him that indeed she was. But while she did that she had mentally rolled her eyes. The question bored her. It was just like being told that is a bottle of milk and you go ask the bottle if it is indeed a bottle of milk.
“So what does Lanre mean and what part of the country?” Gozie asked. Lanre looks at him lazily and asked why he wanted to know.
“Well, was just asking, no qualms!” He said to her. Then she told him she’s from the west, Yoruba. And her name means “wealth has come”. She didn’t bother to tell him the full name. She felt there was no need. She just told him the meaning and left it like that.
“Oh wow! Omo Yoruba!” Gozie said to her. He was saying she is a Yoruba child. She just smiled at him and then looked away.
“So you are Ify’s friend right?” Gozie asked. Lanre was like hope his mother had not discussed anything about her with her son. She hates being asked questions.
“Yes!” Lanre answered plainly. She made a face that showed that she was tired of the questions and was bored with it as well. She just wanted some peaceful quiet.
“Do I bore you?” Gozie asked when he noticed she was uncomfortable. Lanre told him that he was. Then she looks away through the window. She looks outside.
Gozie sighed. “I’m not actually a boring guy, you know”. Gozie said. Lanre told him she does not know about that. It was obvious Gozue just added that not meaning to say it in the real sense of her being aware of him not being a boring guy. But Lanre was bound on making him stop talking.
Gozie sighed. He decided to keep quiet and the rest of their journey was in silence. Nobody said anything to the other. Lanre felt more peaceful. She took a deep breath of relief ensuring Gozie heard it.
He shook his head. It is obvious he was disturbing her. Perhaps she is one of those girls who love their quiet. He laughed himself in his own head. He can’t believe he was actually trying to get familiar with her. He was actually trying to please his mother since she likes the girl.
“Gozie, what the hell!?” He said in his head. Then he stole a glance at her. She is beautiful, but he knows his mom was not after the beauty. Perhaps there is something about her that caught the mother’s attention. What could that be? He thought.
They finally arrived the reception venue. He had told Lanre to wait so he can get the door for her, but Lanre did just the opposite. She opened the door even before he could step out of the car.
