Can You Be Less Heartless

K smirked. Then he got back into the road with the car. Lanre was in shock. How come she never figured out anything when he was at the shoe store, got her the shoe and then when he left, Anita had gone after him. What even made her forget about the call she had received from the private caller who claimed to have gotten her number from a friend who’s bride to be was someone she would be acting as a maid of honour on her wedding.

“This is crazy!” Lanre muttered. Then she looked at K, she asked him to stop. She still insisted that she would go back to the reception hall. But K refused. He asked her to keep quiet and keep calm as well. He took out his phone and dialled a number. Lanre wanted to tell him it was risky making a call while driving, but she decided against it.

K puts on the Bluetooth so that he doesn’t get to hold the phone in his hand. Lanre looks at him, the ear pod he was wearing seemed like it was made specially for him.

“What’s up?” K asked. Lanre almost thought he was talking to her until she realised he was actually on a call.

Meanwhile, over at the reception hall, there was a bit of a commotion, and only a few persons were aware of it. Anita’s mother has waited over 10 minutes and Lanre had still not returned to the hall. She had sent Ify to go look for Lanre quietly. Ify had returned to her telling her that she did not see Lanre.

At first Ify took it as a minor issue when they could not find Lanre. She felt Lanre has gone out of the reception hall as usual probably out of anger. Lanre is fond of leaving a place when she is angry.

But when Mrs Okafor, Anita’s mother started to wail, fear crept into her heart. They had to take the woman out of the reception hall to prevent curious eyes from feeding on her and the family.

Ify became even more afraid when she tried to reach Lanre’s phone but she was not picking up. It kept ringing but she never picked up. Everyone panicked. Even Gozie felt fearful for Lanre. He was beginning to like the girl. She had a smart my mouth and was quite sarcastic.

Just when Mr Okafor was about to call the DPO to inform send officers to go in search of Lanre, Anita walked in. “I think you should all stop worrying”. She said to them. Her mother eyed her disapprovingly.

“Anita, somebody’s daughter is missing, you say we should not worry! On your wedding reception, the same person that did your make up. This girl, can you be less heartless?” The mother said.

Anita frowned at her mother. Her mother seem to be attacking her a lot lately. Especially when Lanre is involved. She contemplated telling them or leaving them to continue to search for a girl who has left the wedding reception to go have fun with a man she does not know.
