A Wreck

“But you have not eaten anything this morning”. Ify said to Lanre. “And I have not eaten because I am not hungry! It is that simple!” Lanre replied. Then she placed her headset over her head ensuring that her ears were well covered and she increased the volume of the sing she was listening to. But immediately she found out that the lecturers and the professor moderating for that day were already around, she took it off and placed it inside her bag.

Lanre mentally cursed when she realised that they already started for the day and she had not gotten anything to eat. She was so lost in the songs that she had forgotten about herself. “Well, I won’t die of hunger! I would just get something to eat if they should take a short break”. Lanre said within herself. Then she sat down properly and soon, the project defense for that day commenced.

Everyone had expected their names to be called out the manner which it had appeared in the book in a descending order, but the professor had done a different thing entirely. She would call on any name from the register, as long as the person was supposed to present that day. So no one knew when he or she would be called out to go make their presentation. As for Lanre, she seldom panic. The only panic she had was that she doesn’t get to be the last person that would present. She wanted to leave on time. If her name turns out to be the last the professor ends up calling, then she was going to be staying there till it was pretty dark. They were much who were going to be presenting. And she was sure it would be done in three lapse. And this was the first lap for the day, 7:30 am until 10 am. The next one would be from 10:15 am until 2pm while the rest of the day till 6 pm would be for the third lap which is the last lap.

Lanre was lucky to have been called to defend her project in the second lap. It turned out that she and Ify did their defense in the same lap. Ify was happy about this. She was going to talk to Lanre after they have been freed from this place they call a classroom. She was going to talk to Lanre about their relationship so that they can settle. She wouldn’t want her mom to come and see that they were still distant. She knows her mom would make good her word as long as she said it herself. Her mother would definitely come that day, and she wouldn’t want to end up locked in the police station.

After Lanre was done with her presentation, she went to have her seat. Immediately she sat down, she took a breath of relief. She was glad that they did not ask her anything that would throw her off balance. She would have ended up a wreck if the professor had asked her questions the way she did others. She thought she was indeed lucky.
