Ify places her hand over the phone’s mic. “I’ll join you downstairs aunt”. Ify replied her aunt. Then she told Lanre that she had to go. After which she hanged up and left to go meet her aunt downstairs.
“Aunt, I told you I do not want to go for this birthday party”. Ify said to her aunt.
“Mechionu! Mechionu gi!” The aunt said, telling her to shut up using their native Igbo language to talk to her.
“This is a life time opportunity for you Ify. I would not be going if the mother of the celebrant was not around. Thank God that they are even doing this birthday here in Abuja and not in Lagos”. Mrs. Okafor said to Ify. Then she told her to go change what she was wearing. She asked her to wear something nice.
“You don’t know who would be looking at you in that party”. Mrs. Okafor said as Ify left to go change her dress. She had a frown on her face. It was just yesterday when her aunt was talking about the birthday party, that Ify got to know that K was the son of the governor of Lagos state, “His Excellency, Honourable, Tolu Adewale”. That makes K the Kehinde Adewale.
Ify wished Lanre had agreed to marry K, then perhaps life would have become easier for her and her mother. But she was only looking at the guys fault. After rejecting him, she even came home crying.
“Maybe destiny will bring them back together of they are meant to be”. Ify muttered these words and followed it with an Amen.
She wore a blue gown that ended a few inches above her knees. Then she wore a four inch heel sandal. She was not a fan of anything higher than that before she goes lower than she is.
Ify joined her aunt downstairs and they both left for the birthday party.
………………………….
Meanwhile, on the other side, Lanre stood looking at the phone she was holding. She wondered what Ify wanted to tell her about Kehinde. In as much as she was disinterested with what Ify wanted to say to her, she was equally interested. She wanted to know what it was about Kehinde. But since Ify had to attend to her aunt’s call and accompany her to the birthday of the Governor’s son as she had heard Mrs. Okafor say on the background.
Lanre puts her phone in her bag and sat down on a chair. She was tired. She dosed off while sitting on the chair.
“Lanre!” Her madam, Lady Bianca called. She had just returned from a client’s house. She had just done home service.
“Lady B, welcome!” Lanre said in a muffled voice that was choked up with sleep. Lanre rubbed off the sleep from her eyes as Lady Bianca, also known as lady B watched her standing up from the chair.
Lady B told Lanre she was sorry for waking her up but they had work outside the city for the next three days. And that means they have to be on their way out of the city at that moment. Lanre frowned, she was tired. But she had no choice but to do as told.
