Willing It To Open

The hotel manager scoffed after Christian has left. “All these young boys born into wealth! If your father was not wealthy, will you have a hotel at this age?” The manager grumbled. He was the kind that hated being ordered around. Having been a manager for over three years, he was used to giving orders and didn’t want to be on the receiving end anymore. But he had no choice. He was at least grateful that Christian does not come often.

He heaved a sigh of relief when the thought crossed his mind. Christian had said the hotel did not look good, he must have too much money that forgot that he had disbursed money to be use in refurbishing the hotel. He smiled to himself.

“The hotel was still the best in the country. It looked good as well. Since his boss is not the customer, and the customers were not complaining, there was no need refurbishing the hotel. That money was going to be used by him. He would only buy a few flowers and pocket the remaining money.

Meanwhile, Lanre remained in her hotel room. She seemed a bit confused as to why Kehinde would want to see her. “What could he possibly want to tell me now?” She threw a question she knew the answer would not be available to her unless she meets with Kehinde.

“He made me feel like a stranger when I called him. Did he delete my number or he did that on purpose. If only he knew how much pride I had to kill that day in order to call him. Now he wants to see me? How did he even know I was here? Ugh!” She felt already frustrated. She tried to wave it off. Then she went back to bed. She shut her eyes but could no longer found sleep.

She picked up her phone and just kept scrolling up and down without knowing what she would do with it. Soon a message popped up on her phone screen. She looked at it.

“Let’s talk. I will come to your room. Is it 411?” It was Ify. Lanre smiled.

“Should her let her come or should I just ignore? Is not like she paid for my hotel room”. Lanre muttered. Then she lay back down on the bed. After contemplating for a while. She decided to reply Ify’s message.

“Room number 416”. Lanre text this reply to Ify. Then she threw her phone down on the bed. “What a boring day!” Lanre said giving off a fake laugh. She would occasionally stare at the door. Would Ify open the door and step in without knocking. Or will she ring the doorbell like the young man who just left? Questions like this ran through Lanre’s mind.

It took Ify over five minutes from the time she got Lanre’s reply to get to Room 416. She hesitated ringing the bell for fear of the unknown. She had to clear things out with Lanre. She just hope Lanre understands.

Ify managed to muster courage with which she pressed on the doorbell. On the other side, Lanre just watched the door as if willing it to open on it’s own.
