“Madam, please come join the governor’s family table”. One of the ushers came to Temitope’s side telling her to join the governor’s family table. Temitope didn’t want to stand until she caught her mother’s eyes watching her. She stood up with a frown on her face. She allowed the usher to lead her right to the table meant for the governor and his family.
Temitope would occasionally steal glances at Austin’s direction. She was afraid of the unknown. Lanre could be one of those women desperate to have a white man by their side. She feared more knowing that Austin already considered Lanre to be very interesting. She could not think less 9f Lanre now. She feared for what may be, what she did not want to be. It was mostly how they got along that made her scared.
Just then she noticed a young man taking a seat right on the same table with her beloved fiancé and the woman she dread would snatch him away from her. Looking at the young man, seeing the smile that appeared from the side of his face and that dimple that went too deep, she immediately knew who it was. “Christian!”.
Temitope became more comfortable through the event because Christian was there. Still, she didn’t bring her guard down. She was ready to run to Austin if she saw anything funny. She was the jealous woman who would always feel insecure when someone of the same gender as her comes close to her man.
Meanwhile, Christian was having a good fight with Lanre through the event. He thought it fun taunting the girl his friend seem to be in love with, while his friend gets to watch believing Lanre was having fun with him. But in actuality, he was only getting Lanre pissed. There was no guarantee Lanre would last till the end of the party if she had planned to.
As for Ify, she was concerned about Lanre. She kept hoping Lanre was okay. She wouldn’t know how it feels if she was Lanre, because she was not sure she would sit by and watch this pull through without doing anything.
She was with her family. And Lanre who was supposed to sit with them was with total strangers. Ify sighed heavily. Her mother noticed and asked her if she was okay. She nods her head and stood up excusing herself. She told them she would needed to go ease herself. Then she left with her bag in hand. She held onto it as if for dear life. She never realise she was being followed until she got to a lonely hallway. She stopped and turned to see two men. No one needed to tell her who they were. But she wondered why they followed her.
“I’m yet to get engaged to Mr. Kehinde, why am I being followed?” Ify asked. She wondered if she had taken the wrong choice of word. She was told it was the governor’s order that she was protected.
