K just stared at the woman he was always wishing to meet, yet could not muster the courage to. Even now, he still could not muster the courage. What if she dies once he steps out of this apartment? What if his father does make good his threat? K wondered. And yet she has no clue. She seemed more concerned about getting rid of him than why he did what he did. But even if he was the one, he wouldn’t care less about why he did what he did. It’s not like she had agreed to marry him in the first place. K sighed.
“Lanre, you should tell the public Ify did not intend to hurt you and the both of you are friends. Let everyone know she had come to ask you to be the maid of honour on her wedding”. K said. He seemed baffled in his mind. He had not expected these words to come out of his mouth. But they were what came out. It seems more like a better excuse to see her than nothing at all. Besides, it won’t hurt her, she does not love him.
“Do you do drugs?” Lanre asked. K was taken aback. Lanre noticed. She folded her arms. Then she took two steps away from him.
“I heard that sons of so many politicians and business tycoons, the rich and gallants, they all take drugs. It seems you took one before coming here”. Lanre said. Then she turned away from him.
“You should leave or else, you will end up with the national drug law enforcement agency. I would not mind doing that. At least having the son of the governor of Lagos state on the front page of a newspaper as a drug addict would make a very catching news”. Lanre said yet again.
She looked from the corner of her eyes hoping he would be stepping back. But he must have been the living version of Lot’s wife who turned into a pillar of salt in the Bible. He didn’t move an inch, but rather stood rigid in one spot.
“I think I should do it then!” Lanre said taking a threatening move towards the table where her phone was. K held her hand.
“Why are you so stubborn? Why?” He asked. Lanre scoffed. To her he was speaking in riddles, one she would never want to understand. And if ever she does, she will act like she didn’t.
“What are you saying? Who gave you the right to determine whether or not I’m stubborn?” Lanre asked. She tried to pull her hand away from K’s hold but got her other hand trapped instead.
“Fool!” She said. She didn’t know why, but she felt like crying. “Why are you even here? What did you come to do? Make me glorify Ify before the world?” Lanre said. She sniffled in, trying to prevent herself from crying before K.
“I was not here to do that? You just left me in confusion”. K said.
