I Will Fix It

Lanre wore a big smile on her face. Then she told Chidinma she would do it. She will have to learn. “You said you want to learn right?” Lanre asked her. Chidinma immediately nods her head with a loud yes coming out of her mouth. She wanted to do skincare treatments, make-up as well as pedicure and manicure. She had come to love it since she stayed with them at the beauty parlour. The only thing that was missing in the beauty parlour was the skin treatment service and spa.

“You will learn that, and then you will also continue with the confectionaries. But you will register somewhere else. I can’t let you learn under that heartless woman”. Lanre said. Chidinma was excited but at the same time she wondered how she was going to learn two things at the same time. Lanre saw right past her and told her she would do each of them three days per week. On Sunday was reserved for her to rest and practice of she feels like.

“Don’t worry, I will fix it up with your teachers. I already found a new place where you can learn to make pastries. As for the skincare stuff, I will look into it as well. And we won’t be learning from the same place either”. Lanre said to her.

Chidinma just stared at Lanre as though she was seeing a god. “Thank you so much aunty! Thank you”. Chidinma cried, overwhelmed by Lanre’s kindness to her. Lanre went ahead to give her a hug then urged her to eat her food.

After their meal, Lanre stayed with Chidinma for about two hours before leaving the house. She instructed her not to open the door if anyone knocks. “I will call your phone once I get back so you can open up for me”. Lanre said.

“But aunty…..” Chidinma called when Lanre had already turned her back and was heading towards the door. Lanre stopped and asked Chidinma what happened.

Chidinma pouted her lips like a child who was deprived of what they wanted. Then she asked Lanre to tell her where she was going to. Lanre looked narrowly at Chidinma.

“I need to know where you are going. I’m only person you have here in Lagos. I do not trust all those rich people that comes around you, especially that aunty that came here last time to cause trouble. They may want to harm you, so I need to know where you are going”. Chidinma said biting her lips at the end and fiddling with her fingers. Lanre understood that Chidinma was worried about her. She certainly must be scared because she thinks Ify may hurt her. But she could not tell Chidinma where she was actually going to. She was going to see Chidinma’s sister, something that has to do with the meeting that got cancelled the previous week because of her mom who was around and won’t let her go out for fear she might collapse again or get hurt.
