His Wife

They met with the receptionist and K requested for a room. “Please I need a good and comfortable room”. K said to the receptionist. Lanre immediately chipped in that they would need two rooms.

“Two rooms? Why?” K asked. Lanre told him that they could not spend the night in the same room. He scoffed. Then he turned to the receptionist and asked her not to mind his wife but to go ahead and fix them into one room.

Lanre was appalled as at how K lied with such a serious thing. She’s not his wife, yet he shamelessly told the receptionist so. She stomp his foot when they got to the room which the receptionist fixed them in.

K glared at her. “Since when did I become your wife?” Lanre asked. K just walked away from her and went to lie on the bed. The room did not have much space in it, but it was comfortable enough for them to spend the night. It does have TV on the wall and it was neat at least.

Lanre picked offence that K was ignoring her. She was about to attack him when she heard a knock on the door. She opened it to see that it was the hotel attendant delivering toiletries to the room. Lanre took the toiletries from him and thanked him. Just then K asked if they had food in the hotel. But the hotel attendant did not hear him. Lanre immediately shuts the door and threw the toiletries on the bed, right next to K.

“Crazy!” He muttered. Then he sat up. He looked at her lazily. He asked her if she was not hungry seeing that she shut the door while he was trying to order for food. Not waiting for her answer, he got up and took the telephone on the desk in the room. He called the kitchen ordering for food. K ordered for two plates of rice and eforiro (a Yoruba vegetable soup that can be eaten with amala or rice).

After making his order, he dropped the telephone and went back to lie on the bed. He placed an arm over his face covering his eyes.

Lanre bit her lips as she watched him. She realised he was looking a bit down. She sat on the bed.

“What do you think Ify will do if she found out you spent the night with me in a hotel room?” Lanre asked. K did not answer. She swallowed her spittle while feeling nervous. His silence was doing things to her.

“She won’t be happy, you know”. Lanre said. K pulled her to himself so she was now leaning on him.

“You are talking too much. My head hurts”. K muttered. Lanre could feel his body temperature now that she was leaning on his body. He was hot. She wondered if he’s sick.

“Your body’s hot!” She muttered almost inaudibly. K shushed her. Then he wrapped chis arms around her asking her not to move.
