Whispering Palms

Christian stood up and offered Lanre a hand to take. But she just stared on dumb. He smiled and told her to take his hand. Then he told her they were going out. Lanre looked quite confused as to where they were going to. Christian took her hand and pulled her up.

“I once told you we will go to whispering Palms, let’s go today. We will shop for whatever you will need there on our way”. Christian said.

“Are we now dating?” Lanre asked. Christian smirked. He told her it was just a friendly treat. The both of them left Christian’s office. They did shop for some beach outfit and a few clothing before they left for the resort. On getting there, Lanre could feel the peace of the waters embracing her cold feet. She felt warmth in the cold breeze that swept across her face as she walked in front of Christian along the shore. While Christian admired the beauty in front of him. While her scenic view was the waters, she was he’s.

“I want to register for NYSC (National Youth Service Corps). I heard I could stay back in Lagos if I choose to”. Lanre said to Christian who’s thoughts were lost in her view. He did not even hear anything she said. She stopped and turned to look at him.

“Why are you not saying anything? I do not like it that you are quiet. Should I register or not? Plus, I was told I can start up the spa without getting to do it myself. All I need to do is employ people”. Lanre said. Christian held her shoulders and turned her around so she was no longer seeing him. He told her to keep moving.

“Do what you feel is best for you. Just don’t regret anything you do”. Christian said. “I will help you connect to a friend of mine. She has a big spa and massaging center. She could help you with some knowledge about the business”. Christian said to Lanre while she walked in front of him.

“Thanks Christian! Sometimes I just want to hug you and call you my brother. You seem to genuinely care for me. Thank you so much Chris! I will be calling you Chris now”. Lanre said to him. Christian did not know if he should be happy or sad. It pierced his heart when she thought of him as a brother. What he wants was no where close to a brother-sister relationship. He wished for everything to be over with and that she loses K. But until then, he will do the Governor’s bidding.

But then, Christian hopes for Lanre to fall in love with him and quit. If she does, he won’t ask her for a refund of the first payment. Instead he would pay her the remaining money and then he would make her his.

Lanre suddenly stops to check her phone. She had an incoming call. It was her brother. She had a frown. This was like the eighth time he was calling her for the day.
