She Had No Money

Sharon burst out into laughter after hearing Uduak’s complain. She asked Uduak if she wanted to cry all this while and felt this moment presents a good opportunity to do so. “Uduak stop acting like a child” Sharon said. Then she turned to face the young lady who had come in seeking for job.

“What is your name?” Sharon asked. She felt if Aaron was not going to ask, then she would ask. They needed to know the basic details of the young lady if they were to report this to Lanre.

The young lady already believed Sharon to be troublesome since she already made Uduak cry.

“My name is Ebitari Mayor!” The young lady said. Sharon gave her a quizzical look. She asked the young lady what sort of name was “Ebitari”.

“It’s my native name. It means “good love”. I’m an ijaw girl from Bayelsa state”. Ebitari said.

“I thought as much after hearing the name. I had a friend who’s also from Bayelsa, his sister had a similar name, Ebi something something like that”. Pascal said. Ebitari just stared at him as he talked. And when he was done, she kept her head bowed.

“So Ebitari, is there no work in Bayelsa where you came from?” Sharon asked. Aisha butts in at the point. She told Sharon that it was rude of her to ask such a question. Then she told Aaron to contact Lanre and tell her of the situation. But Aaron shook his head.

“I don’t think her phone will even go through not to talk of being able to communicate with her. The way she left, you all should have known her by now”. Aaron said. Then with a smile on his lips, he asked Ebitari to come the following day when their madam would be around. He, nor any of the others were in a position to give her a job. Ebitari turned to leave after thanking them, but Pascal stopped her outside.

“You said you have been walking since morning, take”. Pascal said handing Ebitari a few notes. She refused to take the money at first. But Pascal told her that he was giving her because she reminded him if his good friend since they were from the same place, and that she would need this money to come back tlthe following day.

“My madam will definitely give you the job! She’s really nice”. Pascal said before waving her goodbye. He got back into the beauty parlour and immediately got teased by Aaron and the rest of the girls except Muyiwa who’s always quiet.

“Love at first sight!” They said in unison. While Sharon came up with a method of hyping adopted mostly by girls who tends to compliment another relationship.

“I go love oh! I go love oh!” Sharon said and the rest would give Pascal a slight pinch.

“Guys make ona stop! You guys should stop!” Pascal half yelled.

“I noticed she had no money on her from her explanation, so I thought it was good to help, nothing attached”. Pascal said raising up his hand above his head as an indication he had no other intention in giving her the money.
