Everyone in the beauty parlour echoed an “Oh” as though they did not believe what Pascal said. He decided not to explain himself any further. It is inevitable to get misunderstood sometimes, so he understands quite alright if they do not believe his sincerity.
Meanwhile, Lanre after leaving the beauty parlour had called Christian asking if he was free. He told her he was busy with work, but if she wanted, they could meet up. But she would be the one coming to meet up with him. So Lanre went to meet Christian in his office.
“I never knew you worked in an office or you could be this serious. You always seemed to have time to spare”. Lanre said when she entered into his office. He gave her a warm smile and asked her to have a seat on the couch at the far end instead of the office chair right across from his side of the table. Lanre was offered a bottle of wine with which she could entertain herself while she waits for Christian to finish what he was doing. She only got to realise he was in a zoom meeting after watching him talk as though he was talking to himself. Well what she thought at first until she realised it was a video conference call.
She sipped get wine quietly waiting for Christian. And soon, her mind drifted away from her surroundings.
“Olanrewaju! Olanrewaju! Olori buruku!” She could hear her mother’s voice. But it was all in her head. She told her mom to stop calling her names in her head. Then she twisted her lips to the side before parting it roughly.
“Look at what you have done? I told you to stay away from them but you refused. Now look at what you have done to yourself!” The mother’s voice echoed in her head as though she was right there with her and was yelling at her as though she has done an abominable act. She subconsciously twirls the glass in her hand and without knowing it, she dropped it on the floor and it shattered.
“You are just like me! A little tossing here and there, we fall and shatter”. Lanre muttered before squatting down to pick the pieces.
“Stop! I will call some one to clean that up”. Christian said to Lanre taking her hand so she does not touch the broken pieces of glass on the floor. He feared she might get hurt.
“I broke the glass and caused this mess, so I should clean it up myself”. Lanre said. Christian refused her from doing such. He dragged her away from that spot. Then he called for a cleaner to be sent in to his office to clean it up.
“I thought you were in a meeting? Or has the conference call ended?” Lanre asked with her hand still held tightly by Christian. He told her he had to put it on pause. He let’s go of her hand and then went back to his laptop. He immediately said he would no longer continue with the meeting for the day and that was how Christian opted out of the video call conference.
