Ify tried her best to make the Governor’s wife have double thoughts about Lanre by telling her about the rumour. Instead, Lanre gained the woman’s sympathy and Ify had no choice but to act like she was also sympathising with Lanre. Ify could not help but pray the Governor’s wife does not take a true liking to Lanre especially since they were from the same tribe.
So when they went to Nsukka for their convocation Ify approached Lanre.
“If you get back, quit! Stay away from everything and anyone that is connected to K. He is mine”. Ify said to Lanre who saw her words like a joke. She laughed.
“The school promised to fish out the person who spread out those lies about me and did not only try to ruin my reputation but the school’s as well. Do you know what will happen to that person?” Lanre asked with a smug face. Ify told her she was not interested.
“I think I should tell you anyway. You should hear it first from your dearest best friend before you hear it from the Dean of Student affairs himself”. Lanre said to her. Ify scoffs.
“The person’s certificate will be withdrawn and they will make sure no government school, federal or state gets to admit that person. No, they mean to make sure the person never gets a certificate at all since they will collaborate with jamb on that. So even private universities won’t help that person”. Lanre said. Then she took a few steps closer to Ify.
“But do not worry, they will never find out Victory did it!” Lanre said. Ify was shocked as to her Lanre found out that Victory did it. If she knew, then does she know it was on her instruction?” Ify wondered.
“Ify, if you want to fight me, then you have to up your game and stop fighting like a kid. Well, I thought this advice will be useful for you. Because if you continue like this, then just one strike and you are done for”. Lanre said to her giving her a stern look.
“I only need to strike once and your entire life will be ruined, but I won’t be too hard on you. You are free to marry Kehinde, but you won’t be marrying a rich and influential Kehinde. Trust me!” Lanre said. She gave Ify a hug and kissed her cheek before walking away to go find her seat in the hall where the function was taking place, “Ekpo Ref”.
Ify bit her lips almost letting out a cry. Why can’t Lanre just give up? And what was that nonsense she was ranting about? She would marry a wrecked Kehinde? How was that possible when K is the son a of the Governor. And as far as she’s concerned, even if the man is out of office, he can never go broke. Even K has his own money. Ify thought Lanre was just ranting. Perhaps she thinks it was like handling Chibuzor who she flogged after making him stool.
