There Is A Problem

K was busy at work where he was supervising the buildings. He has decided to stay at site for a while, at least two weeks before he goes to his apartment. He could not necessarily call it home because he was not comfortable there. He kept regretting why he signed the contract, but he could not undo what he has done and risk his mother getting publicly disgraced as well as getting investigated by the police. The worst he feared was the Economic and financial crime commission getting their hands on that video. If such a thing were to happen, he would be done for.

“I think I have to look for a way to get those videos. But how? She has it in other devices, and who knows if she has sent it to someone and on order, the person could release it for the world to see?” K was confused. This was beyond him. He could not risk it since it has to do with his mother. He may be stubborn to his parents, but he loves them and was not ready to watch them fall, especially not his mother.

He did not realise that one of the contractor was standing behind him and has been calling his attention for long.

“Sir! Sir! There is a problem Sir”. The contract was saying to K but he was far from being conscious of his environment that he could not hear the man. The man took a deep breath and tapped K three times on his shoulder.

“Sir, there is a problem! We have run out of materials, and the money you deposited for the materials have been used up. I can’t use into my own pay or the worker’s either”. The contractor said. K was surprised that the money he deposited for materials has been exhausted and they were yet to lay foundation for about eleven buildings. The site was indeed large. They already laid foundation for fourteen buildings. His target was 25 buildings. None of the fourteen was up to lintel level and over a hundred million naira was gone. He laughed shaking his head. He rubbed his hands over his eyes wishing this dream to go away.

“How? I mean, how have we used up more than a hundred million naira to raise up fourteen uncompleted building, not even at lintel level yet, but the money is no where to be found? Is this some kind of a joke?” He asked. It was at this point he realised that he was only transferring his aggressive and frustration on the man. Things were actually expensive and the economy of the country has drastically dropped. Now houses were being sold for fifty two million naira, most of them not even as good as the one they were building, and he was busy complaining. He told the contractor that they should use what was available for that day and close when they were done. He said he would send funds later before the end of the following day. K left the site looking visibly tired, but it was out of frustration.
