Because I Said The Truth?

Oghenetega told Lanre that he was directed by his employer to come down to this place. So he had come alone. Lanre did not believe him. She went outside the gate to check but could not find Christian. She stomped her foot on the ground. She had made it clear to him that she did not need a driver and would learn to drive when she has the chance. But no, Christian is stubborn and has gone ahead to do what he wills.

She went back inside the compound. Who lives in another man’s house as a tenant and has a driver but not her own house? Lanre face palms herself. She got into the car and told Oghenetega where she was going. Since he was already there, there was no need turning him back to Christian. There was no need disappointing the young man. She went on to tell the Uber driver not to come anymore. So for the first time since she got her gift, she was riding in it to her shop.

When she got to her office, she called Christian. That was one of the first things she did. She first started by querying him on why he would go against her wish and send a driver to her.

“Chris, kilode na? Why will you send in a driver when I clearly told you that I did not want? Omo, after this week, I’m paying him off”. Lanre said. He told her okay.

“Is it okay you will say. Omo you have to apologise ni”. Lanre said. Christian bit his lips where he was and apologised to the many eyes looking at him. He told Lanre he would call her back in a few hours. Then he hanged up and placed his phone on silent. He had not expected his phone to ring in a board meeting. Well, he had not expected the board meeting either. It was an emergency his father who just returned from the UK fixed. He was not expecting it at all and had failed to put his phone on silent mode.

Lanre looked at her phone. She gritted her teeth. He dared to hang up on her. Does he think it is fun? She does not appreciate him going against her wish.

“Lanre drop it jhoor! You know he is only being nice to you. You should be happy that someone cares about you. I mean, even that stupid Kehinde will not do what this guy is doing for you”. A voice in her head said. She shook it off.

“Get out!” She said to the voice in her head.

“Why? Because I said the truth? Omo, you should drop this stupid ambition of yours chasing Kehinde and fighting Ify. None of them is worth your time. You are too perfect for them. If you can let me, we will get Christian to be our real boyfriend. I’m sure he is ready to make us his wife”. The voice in her head said dreamily. It felt irritating to Lanre that such thoughts could come to her.
