Through The Pain

Lanre felt relieved after Mimi the Gossip Queen had left. She was at least free for the day. But now she has been given an invitation to a party that Mimi would be organising. She was not expecting, but she needed to go because she didn’t want to appear rude neither ungrateful. She went to her office sat on the floor clutching her stomach. Only heaven knows how much pain she has been enduring while smiling and acting all good since she arrived the beauty parlour. She rubbed gently on her lower abdomen and started sympathising with ladies who get painful cramps on their period whenever it comes. This was her first and it was quite unbearable.

She took her phone and called Tega to come pick her up. She told everyone she was leaving and left when Tega arrived. She asked after the young man they had brought with them the previous night. Tega told her the young man was fine. She hummed and then gritted her teeth. She gasps as the pain became very sharp.

“Madam are you okay?” Tega asked. She nods her head telling him she was fine. She was not going to tell a guy she was about seeing her period and because of that she was having cramps.

Lanre got to home and rushed into her apartment telling Tega goodbye. She opened the fridge in dinning area looking for ice. She took out a cold bottle water and placed the bottle on her lower abdomen allowing the coldness to go into her skin. She hopes it works.

She did not realise she had slept through the pain until she heard her phone ringing. She picked it up only to hear Christian’s voice.

“Come open the door young woman”. He said to her. Lanre felt confused looking from left to right. Then she realised Christian was asking her to come open the door for him. That means he was in front of her apartment. She stood up from the couch and went ahead to open the door.

The first thing Christian did when Lanre opened the door was to feel her temperature. She asked him to know why he was feeling her temperature. He asked her if she was alright. She nods her head.

“But the driver said you were ill. He said you kept clutching your stomach but wouldn’t say anything”. Christian said to her. Lanre held her stomach recalling that she was actually having painful cramps. But then, she was no longer feeling it. It seems to have magically disappeared. It must be the cold bottle of water she placed on her lower abdomen. She invited Christian in. She became uncomfortable under his gaze. He seemed not to be removing his eyes from her.

“Are you sure you are okay?” Christian asked Lanre after a few minutes of silence. She nods her head indicating she was okay. Christian asked her what then was wrong with her that made the driver call him. According to him, if the driver did not see it as crucial, he would not have called him.
