The Upper Arm

Ify had left the Olasile’s presence looking pale. She hated the fact that the woman now trust Lanre so much that she was sending her to go shopping with her. Funny enough, the woman also takes Lanre along when going for an important meeting. How does Lanre manage to fool people this much? Even her cousin was taking Lanre’s side. Just about a week ago, Anita had let out that scandalous video of her slapping Lanre. Thanks to the Governor’s wife, she was able to come out of it, but she can’t be sure of the woman always taking her side if Lanre continues to be the woman’s personal assistant or whatsoever she calls her. She wonders what qualifications Lanre has that she lacks.

Just then, her phone began to ring. She picked it up to know who the caller was since it was displayed on her phone screen as unknown.

“Seriously Ify! Have you always not know that I’m rude? Should you not be used to it by now? Why were you complaining to Her Excellency as though you were a kid whose sweet was stolen. We are in a competition right? And you have been playing unfair for a long time. I just raised the steaks now to see if you can keep on. Good bye!” A voice said to Ify over the phone. She did not need no prophet to tell her it was Lanre who has just called her. She clinched her fist and stomp her foot on the ground. She tried calling the number back, but it seems it was a restricted number.

“What could Lanre possibly do? It’s not like she has made any reasonable threatening attempt to get K aside from trying to seduce him. She can’t win, I have the upper arm”. Ify said in between her teeth. By “upper arm”, she was referring to the video of Olasile asking her mother to provide her with financial support from CBN. That was equivalent to stealing. It was just stealing the nations money, and for even making an attempt, she will be sent to jail.

Just then, Ify felt someone pull her into his arms. He had done it so fast that she didn’t get the time to understand what was going on before his lips landed on hers.

“Ify! Do you not know that I will be lonely without you? I thought you said you won’t stay long. And seriously, are you really going to marry him because he is the son of the Governor of Lagos state?” These questions kept hitting Ify as though rocks were being thrown on her, shock evident on her face. The guy in front of her was a total stranger, yet he knows her name and knows she was getting married to K. Who could this person be and why was he bugging her? Why did he even kiss her?

“Who the hell are you?” Ify shrieked. The young man took hold of her shoulders asking her if she was pretending not to know him or she has lost her memories.
