Lanre sat with her head against the seat. Christian looked at her. Half way away from the accident scene, he asked that they drop them off. He did not want his guards to know Lanre’s place. That was his only hiding place. Most times when he is there, he is hiding away from his identity as well as his responsibility. He was not ready to blow his cover.
“I’m sorry Sir, but it is an order not to leave you alone again. Your father will fire us if we go against his order”. One of the security men said. Christian scoffed.
“Which one of you has been following me around then?” Christian asked. They told him the person was not with them. He nods his head. He told them to drop him anyway and that he would be safe. He wants to take Lanre home first and then he would go home.
“Sir asked us to bring the two of you to him”. The security who has been replying Christian said to him. He was taken aback. He ordered that they stop the car. His father must not meet with Lanre. His father has no idea what the Governor asked him to do. And if the father sees Lanre with him, the man would think they were in a relationship and would want to force them to get married. After all, he has been praying for this, for his son who carries different women every week to settle down with one and change his life style. Thanks to Lanre, he has stopped carrying women. If the father sees her, then he would want them to get married.
Christian was not ready for a heart break either. If the father should do that, then Lanre would outrightly reject him. That would hurt him a lot. Besides, while helping her to make K break up with Ify, he was working hard to make her fall in love with him. So that by the time K comes, he would have secure a bigger spot for himself in Lanre’s heart. That way, she won’t accept K if at all he returns to her. And if he does not, she won’t get hurt but only fall to his arms. He can’t afford to let his father spoil things for him.
“If you don’t stop the car, I’m jumping out”. Christian threatened. He made to open the car door, but it was automatically on lock. He gritted his teeth. These guards were undoubtedly loyal to his father. They would follow his every instruction.
“Chris, please stop ranting like a child! I’m sleepy”. Lanre said to Christian. Her words were almost in whispers. Christian became quiet. He pats his shoulder asking her to put her head on his shoulder. She leaned on his shoulder but found it discomforting. She removed her head from his shoulder and leaned on his leg instead. Christian swallowed.
“Please keep your legs well. I need to rest my head, I’m having headache”. Lanre said to Christian.
