Lanre pulled her hand out of Christian’s grip once they got outside. She told him it was rude of him to have dragged her out like that in front of his father. He should have shown the man some respect. Christian told her not to worry about his dad, and that sometimes parents deserve some rudeness. Lanre giggled. She knew she was a culprit as well. She has been rude to her mother on some certain occasion.
They got into the car and Christian attended to Lanre’s wound. After disinfecting it, he placed a band aid on it. Lanre thanked him.
“You are welcome!” He said to her with a smile before turning on the car making it roar to life.
“Your seatbelt please!” He said to her. She puts on her seatbelt after which he drove off.
When they got to Lanre’s place, Lanre decided to tell him what happened between her and her brother and why it happened. Christian made a comment after Lanre was done with her story.
“Some of these churches needs to be closed down. How can someone make a man want to kill his sister by tell him his sister is a witch?” He said. Lanre smiled at him.
“Yeah some! Not all is bad. I’ve met a pastor with a good heart that is realistic. Back then in my school, UNN, the pastor there is something else. He is realistic and whatsoever he says, you will know he is truthful. He is so humble that he does not mind getting corrected by the congregation. According to him, we are all humans and we learn everyday. Don’t condemn anyone. You can learn from a little child and even learn from the worst person on earth, because there are certain wisdom that is not at your disposal and they have it. My only problem was that I thought it stressful going to church most times”. Lanre said laughing at the end.
“Your pastor must have been a great man then!” Christian said to her. She told him he still is a great man.
“You are right! I pray he does not get corrupt. So many pastors are getting corrupt. In fact, the world itself is corrupt. I wonder how some of them manage to overcome”. Christian said. Lanre asked him if the next thing he would do is preach to her because he was now sounding like one of those church boys. He told her he was a sinner but if she wants he was ready to preach to her.
“Good night!” She said stepping out of the car. He chuckled and waved her good bye before driving off.
Lanre walked into her compound. It was as though Yetunde her neighbour has been waiting for her to return. He rushed towards her welcoming her. She wonders what he wants from her this time. She could not understand how someone who is able to afford a two bedroom flat will be begging for food. She just could not understand.
