“It is nice meeting you Sir! Christian didn’t tell me you were this friendly”. Lanre said passing a smile over at Christian’s father. Christian frowned. He told Lanre not to be deceived. Then he took her hand wanting to turn away leading her out of the house. But the father stopped them.
“Ayodele Christian, where do you think you are going without treating your friend’s wound? Even though you are not seeing each other in that kind of way, shouldn’t you be caring in some kind of way?” The father said to his son.
Christian wondered what wound his father was talking about. That’s when he noticed the cut on Lanre’s face close to her brows. He never noticed. And she never said anything about it. Was this his fault, her getting injured on a delicate spot?
Christian led Lanre back in and made her sit on the couch. He told her he was going to get the first aid. The clicked his tongue and shook his head. He told Christian the maids in the house were not dead and that he should send the maid to get the first aid box.
“What if she faints when you leave to go get it? I don’t have strength to carry her”. The father said winking at his son. Christian smirked. His father was really trying hard to set him up with Lanre. He decided to go against his father telling him such a small cut won’t make her faint. The father twisted his lips.
“Why can’t he use his womanising skills on this woman? I can see right through him that he likes her”. The father muttered through his breath. He sat down on another couch.
“So, what do you think about my son? Because I think the both of you look good together”. Christian’s father, Mr. Ayodele said. Lanre fiddled with her fingers. She was trying to put her words right. If she has to answer this question, she would not want to hurt Christian neither get his father’s hopes up. She would have answered straight without thinking much if she had not heard when Christian said he loves her in the car. He must have thought she was a deep sleeper to have said that not knowing she heard.
“Christian is a good person. He is the best friend I’ve had so far. And he is not lazy, he is the most hardworking young man I’ve come across”. Lanre said this last part to wrong the father’s notion that his son was lazy. But that was the least of Mr. Ayodele’s bother. What he said next was unexpected.
“Then we should be preparing for the two of you to get married. Or do you want to do boyfriend and girlfriend till my hair turns completely grey?” Mr. Ayodele said. Lanre could not find words to say.
Christian who has just entered back into the living room pulled Lanre up. With the first aid box in his other hand, he dragged Lanre along with him out of the house telling his father he has to drop her off at her house.
