Lanre left the room with her hand rubbing her stomach. She felt like something was digging a hole in her stomach. She could not afford to sleep without food that night. Lanre found herself in the living room. Should she go to the kitchen or meet Anita for courtesy sake? She was confused. She doesn’t even know Anita’s room. She was led straight to K’s room, which Anita had initially made her believe was going to be her room for the holiday and had not known Anita’s room. She didn’t want to enter into a particular room and end up faced with Ify.
“What are you looking for?” K’s voice reaches Lanre’s ears. She looked at him. Perhaps telling him would be best since he is the owner of the house. She told him she wants to eat and she didn’t want to enter into the kitchen since it was not her house. K told her he was going to prepare what he would eat since he was yet to eat as well. She smirked. Was he making a move on her or this offer has no strings attached to it?
“Is there swallow? I want soup, especially Okro soup and fufu”. Lanre said to K with a frown on her face. K smiled. She seems to like swallow a lot. That was what she ate when he first took her to his place in Abuja. He told her he would check the kitchen to see if they had what she wants. He opened the fridge but there was no soup in it. He asked her if she would eat noodles or spaghetti since that was a fast option and it was night already. There was no way he was he would be able to get okro with which he could prepare the soup none was he willing to go to any late night market.
“It’s not like you would know how to cook okro soup if you should go get the ingredients. This is only a lame excuse”. Lanre said to K. She expected an answer from him. K did not give her the reply she wanted. She was expecting him to defend himself. If he had done that, she would have make him go to the night market.
“Lanre, you also love spaghetti”. He said to her. She scoffed. So he was aware she does love spaghetti. She watched as he went on to prepare the spaghetti. It was just the both of them in the kitchen, but not for long.
Ify must have heard some noise while in her room. She came down to the kitchen and found Lanre seated on a stool while K was busy cooking. She asked them what was going on. Lanre remained quiet as though she had not just heard Ify ask a question. It was K who answered.
“I’m cooking”. K said to her. She asked him why he did not call her to come cook for him if he was hungry and wanted to eat.
