Why Did You Allow Him?

Eno was enraged. Her eyes were full of tears and darkness. Losing her mother was like losing the only hope she has in life. Her mother was the one fending for the family. The father brought nothing to the table. Even after working through the day and at night as a bus driver, he will drink with the money he made and squander whatsoever was left on other ladies. The mother was the one paying their school fees. This only means no more school for her and her younger sisters. She wondered if it was just the fact that her mother had only girls or her father never loved her mom.

Eno fell to her knees. Her heart felt like a thousand needles have been stuck in it. Rather than crying out, she laughed. The pain she felt was too much for her to cry, no one can give her the comfort she deserves. She stood up abruptly like one that has just been possessed. She ran back to her school to fetch her younger ones from school. She needs to run away with them. That was the only thing on her mind.

Eno got to school only to be given a devastating news. Her father had come to the school and took the little girls with him, all two of them. Eno dashed out at the teacher who was in charge of one of the sister’s class. She grabbed her neck.

“Why did you allow him take my sister? Why? Why? He killed my mother, now he will kill my sisters as well!” Eno cried bitterly, hot tears caressing her cheeks. Bisi stood there watching her friend and class mate reacting in such manner. She has never seen Eno like this before. Even when Eno was being dragged out, she won’t stop struggling. Eno went back to the house looking dejected. All the while she was in the house, she had a knife with her. If her father steps into the house, she was going to kill him and run away. Had she seen her sister’s, she would have run away with them and forget about avenging her mom now.

Eno waited for her father until it was late in the night, he did not return to the house. Soon fear began to creep into her heart. Her thoughts rallied round the fact that her mother whom she has been living with has been killed by her father and the woman’s ghost could be lingering in the house. Even if it was her mother, Eno was afraid of ghost the most.

The thought of seeing a ghost gave her the chills. She ran out of the house into the street that night. It was almost midnight. She began to run and shriek at every little sound she hears. She found herself on the road towards the market, she immediately turn back. She has heard stories of how ghost trades in the market at night, fear would not let her go that way.
