Take The Responsibility

Christian gritted his teeth. He frowned at her. She said she was okay but won’t stop crying. And even if she accepts she’s not okay, will she tell him what is going on in her heart? Will she share her pains with him? Will she willingly lean on his shoulder and cry? It made him angry now that he thought about it. Why did the Governor drag him into this shit in the first place? And why can’t K Just marry Ify at once or stand by Lanre if he really cares?

“I don’t know how you figured out, but I’ll say this anyway. Now that you know that I love you, please tell me what is actually going on with you. It is killing me, the fact that I do not know why you are being this way. It’s worst because I do not know how to comfort you since you are being difficult as well”. Christian said to her.

“Do I look okay to you?” She asked him. He shook his head indicating the negative.

“When Ify said she was pregnant, I went blank. And when she mentioned the things she noticed that led her to take the test, I became fearful”. Lanre said. She held his sleeve.

“Chris, I don’t think I’ve seen my period in the last two months! I have been lazy and I sleep often. I have headache most times that only gets soothed when I relax. My body is changing as well, I’m getting chubby when I’m barely eating anything. And even when I find appetite to eat, I eat more than I usually consume”. Lanre said, the fear evident in her eyes.

“Lanre snap out of it. Your body could just be changing or something. It doesn’t mean anything. Stop crying and stop thinking”. Christian said to her trying to convince himself as well that nothing was wrong.

“You have been really good to me! It will be a shame if I never kept my side of the bargain. But then, I can’t ruin their relationship now that she’s pregnant. If he has to leave her, let it be on his own accord”. Lanre said.

“Do I look like I care? Lanre, if it’s not the Governor who has been behind the scene, then maybe things wouldn’t have come this far. Maybe you would have been with K by now. But I guess I should thank him, because of him, things ended up this way. At least I fell in love”. Christian said. Lanre just stared at him, her face revealed she would cry at any moment.

“Let us not make it a one night stand, let’s push it farther. I will take full responsibility for you. And if anything should come up, I will be responsible”. He said to her.

“Really? Will you? Will you take responsibility of her? Is that what you want to do?” A voice came from behind. Christian turned to see his dear friend. He had no clue K was there. And Lanre obviously did not notice as well since Christian was in her view.
