Financial Fraud

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry for everything! I’m sorry I treated you like a toy tossing you everywhere! I’m sorry for ever yelling at you and telling you off! I’m sorry for making you hating me! I’m sorry for being a jerk!”. K said to her, his eyes not meeting hers. He was avoiding eye contact and was not looking her way at all even though he was holding her hand. He must hate apologising for him to apologise like this. Lanre could tell it was hurting his pride that he was apologising. But she thought his apology arrived too late. Now she can’t accept it.

“I am good at holding grudges as much as I am good at what I do. Mr. Kehinde Adewale, it is too late to cry when the head has already been cut off”. Lanre said to K.

“Sir! EFCC, they are here to take your mother away”. A young man appeared next to K. He sounded like he was running to get to K. His breathing was rapid. He heard his tired legs that has grown this way from running up the stairs to where K was.

K told the young man to watch Lanre and should not let her leave until he says so. He ran down to his mother’s aid. What he met at the hall made him bitter. He clutched his fingers. His anger was directed towards one person, “Ify”. The video of his mother asking Ify’s mother to steal money from CBN was being projected in the hall for everybody to see. Worst is that it was also everywhere in the internet. It went viral the moment it was uploaded. It was as though netizens were aware of such video coming and they were waiting for it to be uploaded so they can spread it. Another video was that of his mother and the wife of the Governor of Benue state planning to channel the money that will be given to them for a program into their pockets. His mom was wrong, but the person who decided to disgrace his mother publicly would pay. He went to meet with the EFCC agents. He told them to release his mother that he would bring her to them himself.

“Even the Governor himself said we can take her with us, who are you to stop us?” One of the agents asked. K frowned. He would not mind jumping the law to defend his mother right now. Taking her away like this was shameful and he hated it.

“I will bring her myself. Remove the cuffs! She is not a criminal”. K said. The agent who had previously replied him asked K if he was not seeing the video on display.

“So then? Videos could be made up! Do you have a warrant to arrest her? What you have to do is investigate and not even carry her with you. Where is your warrant?” K asked.

They told him they rushed down here after getting a tip from someone that the Governor’s wife was involved in financial fraud. One whispered into K’s ear.

“We would not have been here if not for those videos that has gone viral on the internet”. K understood at that point that there was a reason his father allowed them to take his mother. He lets them take her.
