A Stupid Question

The following day, it was all over social media that the fiancée to the son of the Governor of Lagos state was calling off their engagement with reasons best known to her. Their was an uproar in the internet. People wondered if she was leaving the Governor’s son because of the scandal in the family. People only saw that video, but they had no clue who it was the Governor’s wife was asking to help her steal. So they could not really say that was the main reason she was living. Even the mass media were drawn by this recent development. They found it news worthy since it has to do with Governor Adewale Adekunle’s son. First, a video of his wife asking someone to steal from CBN got leaked, now his son’s fiancée was discarding him.

It didn’t take long for different news channels to take up the story and started flogging into the Governor’s private residence with an aim to get an answer to what was actually happening in the family. They thought they would find Kehinde Adewale there. But kept getting disappointed.

It was three days after Ify had released her statement that the media got information that the just separated couple were at the airport. They flogged into the airport and when they found Kehinde together with Ify at the airport, they started throwing questions at them.

“Why did you call off your engagement all of a sudden?”

“Is there a third party?”

“Did you call it off because of his family’s current reputation which is at stake? Or is your family against your union? I mean judging from the fact that it is rare for the Igbos and the Yorubas to intermarry, could this be the case?” One of the reporters asked this particular question. K had thought maybe he should address this and make the media believe it was because of cultural differences. But Ify cuts in before he could take the lead.

“I can’t answer all your questions, but I will get straight to the point. How many of you will marry a man whose mother forces your mother to steal? How many of you will marry a woman who thinks your marriage is a market where they can make profit? I guess none”. Ify said.

“Then why are you still together moving around like couples? Or have you not really called off the engagement?”

“Is that not a stupid question to ask? Of course we are longer engaged, but does that make us enemies? Should I be enemies with the father of my unborn child?” Ify asked playing her hands down to her stomach. She strokes it gently, a gesture for people to believe she’s pregnant with K’s child. K had not expected she would make her lies public. He clenched his fist. He pulled Ify to his side and forced their way through the crowd of reporters.

A lot of reporters stated in their report that Ify had a bad personality. They said she was very rude.
