Rich People

“Rich people seem to have so many scandals! I envy their wealth, bit not their lifestyle. I’m glad not everyone is like them”. Eno said. She pouts her lips and changed the channel from news channel to a movie channel. She was tired of watching news that was irrelevant to her. This news won’t even help the country. She wonders why reporters have to swoon over a couple that already broke up. She hoped her helpers, Lanre and Christian won’t break up like the couple she has just seen on TV. They looked too good together. She was vouching for them to get married.

“Eno, where is Lanre?” Christian asked. He has just stepped into the house and the first question he asked was Lanre’s whereabouts. Eno wonders if he is always free or he was just making out time to check up on his pregnant girlfriend. She told him Lanre was sleeping in her room upstairs. Christian breathed in relief. He was always doing this. He was scared Lanre would leave one day without informing him. He did not want her to stress herself. He was afraid she would get hurt at any slight mismanagement. And another reason why he had rushed down was that he was not sure what Lanre would do if she was watching TV and had seen K and Ify together. He went upstairs to go see her. At least he needed to make sure she’s really sleeping.

Christian got to the room and saw that Lanre was really sleeping. He sat down on the bed beside her. He traced a line down her face. A smile crept into his lips.

“Marry me Lanre! You won’t have to worry about being loved or being betrayed. I will be your friend, your brother, your father, your lover and your husband”. Christian said. He squeezed her hand a little and then stands up to leave. But turns back and kissed Lanre’s cheek before actually leaving. He has come to accept the fact that she was pregnant with the truth that the man responsible for the pregnancy does not know about it and it was unnecessary for him to know about it. Anybody would believe that he got Lanre pregnant judging from the fact that they have been acting like a couple for a while.

“Sir, she refused to eat in the morning and only had water. She did not even take her medication this morning”. Eno reported immediately Christian got down. Christian sighed. It must be symptoms of the pregnancy. Lanre would need somebody to force her now. He thought her own symptoms kind of came later than it should from what he read. But he remembered there were some exceptions.

Christian told Eno he would take care of Lanre. Instead of leaving the house, Christian went into the kitchen to prepare something for Lanre to eat. He smiled at the thought of forcing a grown up woman to eat as though she was a little child. The thought of this only brought him joy.

“Kehinde, thank you for letting her come my way. I will make sure to keep her and win her”. He muttered with a smile on his lips.
