Same Thing You Said

“You should rest for now Kehinde. Take a break from supervising the work. Stay out of public eyes and stop going after that girl. I want to bring your mother out of cell. You should not add to my worries”. Governor Adewale said to his son. K had just arrived the his father’s private residence a few moments ago. It was the first place he had come to after leaving the hospital. It turns out Christian did not return to meet K at the hospital and his father did not send anyone there even after Christian passed him the message of what happened to his son.

K sighed. He asked his father how he intended doing that. Governor Adewale just looked at him blankly without answering his question. Instead he told him to remain in the house and take his rest. K asked him if he was really against him going after Lanre. The father turned his face away from K wanting to leave.

“Same thing you said to me some months ago. You told me not to go after Lanre. I did as you said and stuck to the engagement with Ify. Now she did this mom you asked me to make her call off the engagement. I did, but you still won’t let me go after Lanre, will you?” K asked.

“I left her for fear you will hurt her, but you hurt me more. I tried getting back to her but now she’s pregnant for my so called childhood friend, Chris. The worst disaster I have ever experienced. Now I can’t have her! Are you happy?” K asked.

“The question is, “are you satisfied”? Foolish boy! I gave you an opportunity to have her but you were too blind. If Christian has taken her for himself then he is wise. You talk about her being pregnant as if you did not get her friend pregnant. I do not want you to disturb that young lady again. Do not bring shame to your mother and I”. Governor Adewale said and stormed out of the house.

K found himself in a feat of confusion. He could not still put a grasp on what his father meant. When did his father give him a chance to make Lanre his? His father was against Lanre due to the fact that Lanre was not of a wealthy background. He does not seem to understand his father. He stood up abruptly from the couch and walked out the door only to be stopped outside. He demanded that the guards let him go but no one answered him neither did they make way for him to pass. He would have love to fight his way through but not when he has an injury on his head. He went back inside and headed straight upstairs.

“Damn! This is so frustrating! How could Lanre be pregnant for Christian? Is this karma hitting me right where it hurts most or is it just my bad luck. It’s not like I ever touched Ify or got her pregnant!” K blew out an air of emptiness.
