She Does Not Trust Her

Lanre held her hands over her head. She looked wrapped up in worry. She was still traumatised with Ebube’s death. Lanre looked at Ify. She pleaded this time that Ify stops the car. Ify decided to look for a suitable spot to park. Once she found a parking lot in front of a Departmental store, she didn’t hesitate to park there. Lanre rushed out of the car. It was as though her breath was leaving her and she was trying to catch it.

“Are you okay? You look like you are suffocating”. Ify said. She was patting Lanre’s back.

“What the hell did you put in that car?” Lanre half yelled. Ify told her she didn’t put anything in the car and that it was not her car. She told Lanre she rented the car. Lanre told her to throw away the air freshener from the car and that it was suffocating her. Ify doubted such. Who would say they get affected negatively by air freshener?

“Are you sure it is the air freshener?” Ify asked. Lanre eyes her disapprovingly. She asked Ify if she wanted to complete her act of kindness or not. Ify sighed. She removed the air freshener from the car. Lanre told her that she would wait for a while before she would get back into the car. Ify had no choice but to wait.

After a while, the two of them left. Lanre asked Ify to help her with her phone. She used Ify’s phone to send a message to Alhaja Fatima requesting for Senator Ojo’s contact. She told her she needed it urgently. She made sure to attach her identity and also ensured to warn her not to contact her phone.

“Why don’t you use your phone?” Ify asked. She was thinking Lanre wanted to do something which her own phone could not process. But it turns out it was a text message. And Lanre had also deleted it just immediately after she sent it.

“I don’t have airtime on my phone. And I do not feel like recharging. Do you have a problem with that?” Lanre asked. She did not want to tell Ify what she suspected could be wrong with her phone. She felt like K had done something to her phone because she could not explain how he gets to know who called her and who she sent messages to. How he even got to see the video Ify sent her was just something she could not explain.

“Take me to a phone hub! I need to get a new phone”. Lanre said to Ify. Ify frowned. She asked Lanre why she would want to get a new phone of her phone was perfectly okay. Lanre told her it was none of her business and that she expects her to complete her act of kindness. Ify told Lanre she was only helping her for old times sake.

“That is why I’m not thanking you yet. You might decide to change for old time sake”. Lanre replied. Ify looked at her stunned. She was not expecting that Lanre still does not trust her.
