A New Phone

They got to a phone hub where Lanre got her phone swapped. Ify asked her if she had not said she wanted to buy a new phone. Abd Lanre replied by asking her if it was an old phone she got from the phone store. Ify felt like she could not understand Lanre. She told Lanre she didn’t say she was going to swap phones instead. Lanre told her there was no difference with paying all cash and paying some part with cash and the rest using a phone. But Ify thought Lanre should not have exchanged her phone when it was perfectly okay. It even looked new.

Lanre walked out of the phone store humming to a tune that she probably does not even know if there’s an actual music for it. Ify followed behind and they left the phone hub. After getting the new phone, Lanre got a new line as well.

Lanre asked Ify to drop her off at her shop. Ify did just that. It took them less than an hour to get to Lanre’s shop in Surulere. On getting there, Lanre expected Ify to leave, but Ify followed her in. Lanre acted as though she did not know she was following her.

“I must be lucky to meet you today. I came two days ago, your workers told me you have not been coming because of some health issues”. A lady said to Lanre. Lanre smiled at her and then exchanged pleasantries. This was business. Even though she those not know the woman, in business, customers are familiar whether or not they are.

“So, which one of our services do you need?” Lanre asked after talking with the woman for quite sometime. All these while, Ify had find herself a seat.

“Oh no! I already made my hair and also fixed my nails. But if you admire available this weekend, I would want you to do my makeup. I have a party I will be attending this weekend. I just wanted to thank you in person for last time. I think the money I paid was not even enough for the service you rendered to me”. The woman said. Lanre was getting confused. But one thing was sure. The woman must have visited her shop before.

“Oh! Wow! I’m glad our services were satisfactory. It is a good thing getting commendations from customers”. Lanre said.

“Do you not recognise me?” The woman asked Lanre. Lanre told her she has a lot of people who visit on regular basis and those who comes to her shop like the wind and leave the same way not returning back. She could not possibly recall everyone.

“It is quite understandable. I was here over three months ago. I had caused a scene with your workers whilst requesting for your presence since I only wanted to be attended to by you”. The lady said. At this point Lanre asked her to follow her to the office. She was herself tired of standing. So the both of them went to her office.
