Because You Are Selfish

Before coming to meet with K, Ify was with Lanre in her office and had no intention of leaving Lanre despite knowing that Christian was coming. And despite knowing that she was not welcomed in Lanre’s office, she stayed. But then her phone started to ring. She had ignored the calls until Lanre asked her to pick it up. She did not want to answer the call in front of Lanre. It was K who was calling her. So she told Lanre she was leaving. And that was when she left LANs Beauty Parlour. It turns out that K had been trying to reach Lanre all to no avail. And then decided to call Ify. He had seen the CCTV camera footage and knew Ify was the one who helped Lanre get out of the hotel room.

K had asked Ify where she took Lanre to. Ify had asked him to come meet her at a popular restaurant. But they never got to get inside. K even got to the place before her. And when Ify arrived, the first thing he did was to demand that she tells him where Lanre is. Ify told him that she had no clue where Lanre went. That was when K strangled her almost to the point of death. Before pulling her to the car and driving off with speed.

Now, K has parked his car to attend to a call. When he saw who it was that was calling, he wanted to keep the phone aside. It was Christian. Then it occurred to him that perhaps Lanre was now with Christian. He picked the call. He asked Christian why he called. Christian told him that he was asked to call him. Christian told him that Lanre wanted to speak with him. K held tightly the steering wheel. If it were possible, the bones in his knuckles would have found their way out of his skin.

“Give her the phone”. K ordered. Christian scoffed from the other side of the phone. He handed the phone to Lanre. Then he stood up and walked away from Lanre’s office.

“Kehinde, what wrong did I do to you? What have I done wrong to you that would make you keep Eno away without my knowledge? I want to see the girl right now”. Lanre said.

“Lanre what are you saying? I did not keep her away from you. I told you already that I will send her to a better school. I only too her to a standard school, a boarding house. What would make me want to keep her away from you?” K asked Lanre over the phone.

“Maybe because you are selfish? Maybe because you just want to hold me down? Or maybe because you do not care how I feel nor do you care about what I want. You just want everything to go your way”. Lanre said to K.

“Lanre, please where are you?” K asked Lanre. He was soft spoken this time. He was scared Lanre would do something rash that would cause her harm. But he was happy that she was safe at the moment.
