“We can’t just start off like that. We barely know each other”. Eno said flagging off Chidinma’s hand. Chidinma frowned. She told Eno to stop acting like a sadist. Eno replied by telling Chidinma to stop acting like a child. Chidinma got angry and told Eno she was older than how. Eno asked her how sure she was that she was the one who’s older. Chidinma told her she was seventeen. Eno realising that Chidinma was indeed older decided to wrap things up by saying age does not matter much after clearing her throat.
“You are just trying to act cool. You should apologise when you are wrong”. Chidinma said to Eno. Eno told her that she was yet to do anything wrong, and that if anyone was wrong between the two of them it was Chidinma who had come to disturb her sleep.
“Were you sleeping? I thought you were just pretending to be asleep!” Chidinma said. Eno eyes her disapprovingly. She told Chidinma that even if it was a pretense, it only means she wanted to sleep badly. She told Chidinma she was stressed out from the journey they had and needed to get some sleep.
“Oya sorry! But you still owe me an apology”. Chidinma said.
“Then I will reject your apology. That way we are even. I don’t get to apologise to you and you do not have to apologise either. Good?” Eno said.
“You should learn to take responsibility for your actions and not try to circumvent. I do not act like a baby or try to talk to strangers. I just felt free with you because you care with aunty Lanre and I trust her. I’m also free with her. She is the person I trust and love most in the world”. Chidinma said.
“What about your sister? Aren’t you supposed to trust her most?” Eno asked. She suddenly became interested in what Chidinma has to say. Chidinma sniffed. She looked at Eno, a smile appeared at the corner of her lips.
“Aunty Lanre savede from going into prostitution. This house we are currently living in, the money for everything we own was provided by her. My sister was a prostitute. Aunty Lanre changed her life and saved me from hell on earth. She treated me like her younger one and even her mother was no less”. Chidinma said. Eno nods her head.
“Me too! She saved me! I feel like nobody can ever compare to her again in my life”. Eno said.
“I think fate brought her to save me. The first day I saw her, she was with her friend uncle Christian. I thought they were in a relationship that day. He had hit a woman’s car with his. The woman was the wife of a high ranking soldier. She would not stop making a scene. I hated her and thought uncle Christian will be beaten to pulp by those soldiers who had come to her aid”. Eno said. She lets out a breath.
