“Whoa! So your first encounter was actually like that? What did uncle Christian do then? Did aunty Lanre fight the soldier’s wife? Did they hurt aunty Lanre and uncle Christian? Uncle Christian is a really nice guy. He is super good to aunty Lanre. But have you seen the Governor’s son? His name is Kehinde. He loves aunty Lanre a lot. But he is foolish. He does not know how to express his love to her. They were always fighting. The last time he came to the house before aunty Lanre sent me back to my sister, I had intentionally locked them in the house and left with the key”. Chidinma said. At this point she gasped placing her hand over her mouth.
“Could it be that she sent me back to my sister because of that? But they did settle that day na”. Chidinma said. She looked like she was going to cry.
“Lol! I don’t think she sent you away because of that. But don’t you think you are a little bit too noisy?” Eno said. Chidinma copied her making an irritating sound together.
“But don’t you think you are a little bit noisy? Yen yen yen! Please continue with the story. I’m starving already?” Chidinma said. Eno asked her when stories turned into food. She decided to continue anyway. She told Chidinma how at the end, she realised that the people she had pitied had more power compared to that woman. She was quite relieved that they could defend themselves. And then the drama was over and she had to leave with her friend Bisi.
“Bisi usually thinks I’m insane most times. Especially when I start reciting my poems off hand. But it’s more like I’m talking and it fits into a poem. I write them down most times. Anyways, back to what I was saying. Please I do not want no sympathy once I get to this particular part. I will stop the story and sleep”. Eno warned Chidinma before continuing the story. Chidinma told her she would not sympathise nor pity her.
“One day, I was sent back home from school for owing school fees. My twin sisters were still little. So I asked the school to let them stay back while I go home and get our school fees. I arrived the house only to find my mother dead. They had rushed her to the morgue”. Eno said. She suddenly burst out laughing this time. Chidinma became worried. She just talked about finding her mother dead and started laughing. Could Eno’s friend be right that Eno is insane? Chidinma wondered.
“It is funny that I do not even know up until now if my mother was laid to rest and where it was done. I had gone to the school to get my younger ones. But my father got there before me. After beating my mother to death, he had gone to the school to take the twins away. I have not heard from them since then”. Eno said wiping the tears off her face.
