We Had An Agreement

Although Lanre had said to K that she would not be coming to Lagos until she was ready, she could not help but to be on her way the following day. She felt her heart drawing towards him. He told her he missed her. That alone had made her want to run to him. But she had to feigned disinterestedness. She did not want to let out her feelings. She wanted him. She does love him. But she knew beyond love, was her principles, her life and her work which she was not willing to submit at K’s foot. She would not want to be the house wife type he wants her to be. She cannot let herself be imprisoned as she saw it as nothing but imprisonment to stay at home for one guy, look beautiful for one guy and doing nothing else with her life but pleasing him with her body.

Lanre arrived Lagos quite early as there was barely any hold up on the way. She told herself to stay calm and not inform K she was back until the following day. No matter how excited she was, and how much she wanted to spill the beans, she told herself to stay calm and pretend as though she had not spoken to K the previous day. She shuts her eyes and tried to embrace sleep that was running away from her.

“Aunty Lanre, he is here! Uncle K”. Eno said. The “Uncle K” came out of Eno’s mouth like a struggle. She didn’t have a good impression of him at first and did not like him as much as she likes Christian and prefers Christian to K. And this was another thing that would normally generate a quarrel between her and Chidinma most times. When Chidinma starts saying K and Lanre would make a perfect couple and lovely parents, Eno would go against it. And then while Chidinma takes K’s side, Eno would vouch for Christian.

“Tell him to come in. I’m tired”. Lanre said. Just then she gasped in surprise. She stood up in a frenzy. She asked Eno to repeat what she had just said. Eno told her that K was in the house and was currently seated in the living room.

“How the hell did he know I was back? Ugh!” Lanre shrieked. She stood up from the bed and left for the living room.

“I thought as such, I will see her if I come today”. K said. Lanre frowned. She asked him what he was doing in her apartment.

“I thought we had an agreement? You will do anything I tell you, and I don’t get to lock you up?” K said to Lanre. She frowned. She walked closer to him. For about a minute she just watched his eyes. Then she scoffs and sits down on the couch.

“So how was your trip? Did you miss me much?” K asked. He knelt down and hugged Lanre’s with his arms. His face was now buried in her stomach as he waited for an answer.
