Irritating

Chidinma grabbed Lanre’s arm. She was crying with her head resting on Lanre’s shoulder. She kept telling Lanre not to leave and that even if she was leaving, she should take her along. Lanre tried to talk Chidinma out of it, but the young lady was adamant. She would not let Lanre be. Eno just looked with a smirk on her face. She found Chidinma’s act to be hilarious yet irritating. She thought Chidinma was too clingy, and that Chidinma was not considering the fact that Lanre was pregnant for her to glue herself to Lanre like that.

“Dinma, you should let me go na! Please! I will call you everyday this time around. And I will send you gifts from time to time”. Lanre said trying to persuade Chidinma to let her go. But Chidinma refused.

“You told me you will stay with us for ten days but you are leaving when it is not even up to a week since you came”. Chidinma said to Lanre.

“You should stop whining like a two year old child getting separated from her mother. It is annoying please”. Eno said directing her words Chidinma.

“Shut up sadist! It is because you are going with her that you are saying all these. Aunty Lanre is first mine before yours. I come first”. Chidinma said.

“Yeah right! I doubt you are seventeen. You behave less than seven”. Eno muttered. Chidinma heard it. She let’s go of Lanre and turned to face Eno.

“And I doubt you are sixteen! You old woman in a young girl’s body”. Chidinma said. Eno laughed. She told Chidinma that she had at least achieved something. She had gotten Chidinma distracted and caused her to leave Lanre alone.

“Eno!” Chidinma cried when she realised that Lanre already got in the car. Eno blew a kiss at Chidinma before getting inside the car as well. She called out for Chidinma not to miss her too much. The two were always at loggerheads with each other except for when they start telling stories.

“Should she follow us? I get bored when you are not at home. And even if you are at home, I can’t play with you like I play with Dinma”. Eno said. She looks at Lanre with her lips pouted. Lanre laughed. She asked Eno if she was not always fighting with Chidinma.

“No! She is my sister!” Eno said.

“I’m glad you found yourself a sister. She will come to Lagos to spend a week with us, probably next month. But for now, we are going alone”. Lanre said to Eno. Eno frowned. She also wanted Chidinma to go with them. But she had to to listen to Lanre. She waved goodbye at Chidinma who did not wave back. Her face looked as though it was bread left to soak in water.

Chidinma soon let out a loud cry like someone who was wailing.

“What is this one now? Come on get inside! Do you think you are a baby?” Pearl said to Chidinma pushing her back inside the house.
