Not Really My Girlfriend

“Na why you de cry na (why are you crying)? Or don’t you know that you are a man? Try your tears jhoor. The best you can do is to help others as well instead of crying”. K said to Yetunde. Yetunde wiped his tears. He told K that being a man does not mean he should not shed tears. He told K that he knew how he suffered. And how pride made him suffer worst because he could not tell anyone he lost his job and could not beg for help. Not until he received a letter from the court that he was forced to seek for Lanre’s help.

“I cannot say I understand how you feel. But it is well! What about that your babe at was with you when I came to ask if you knew where Lanre stays?” K asked. He was looking for a way to lighten the mood a little bit.

“Sorry about what I did that day Sir? It was stupid of me”. Yetunde said to K. K told him there was no need apologising because he already dropped that and had not picked offence. He told Yetunde he was just asking after the girl.

“Well, I don’t even know what to say. She was not really my babe. My babe left me about two years ago when I told her I lost my job. And as for the girl in my apartment that day, she was just someone I was seeing. Not really my girlfriend. It was more like friends with benefit if I could even say we were friends. But it is all good now. We stopped our illicit activity already”. Yetunde said. K nods and then tapped Yetunde’s shoulder.

K tells Yetunde he will give what his mother had brought to Lanre. He asked him to go back to work. After Yetunde left, K opened the bag to see what was inside. It was full of spices. He laughed. Yetunde’s mother most be old. There was something wrapped in another bag inside the bag he was holding. He opened it to see that it contained a wrapper. K smiled. Should he do the same thing? Should he get Lanre a wrapper?

He shook his head. She may not like it. Most ladies do not like tying wrappers anymore.

“She could sew it into any clothe of her choice”. A voice in K’s head said. Still he was afraid. He thought he would just give her this one that has been sent to her. And if he notice that she likes it, then he will get some for her. He will make sure they are of very high quality.

K puts the bag in his car. Then he decided to take a tour round the estate. It was a vast land. So it took him a lot of time to be able to go round. Looking at his project coming into life fully, K smiled. He believed he was doing a great job. Judging from how far they have gone. Two months would be too much time for them to finish everything.
